Kevin McKidd: the other McDreamy

Found this piece of great news

Known for his role in Journeyman, this Scottish actor may be joining the ranks at Seattle Grace as a knew doc in town. Kevin McKidd – who also appeared in HBO’s Rome – is currently in talks with the executives of Grey’s Anatomy to appear in what sounds to be a rather long story arc. The storyline would involve McKidd as a doctor who arrives at Seattle Grace after serving in Iraq. Doesn’t give us much to go on, but at least it’s something.

If you haven’t seen Journeyman or Rome but McKidd looks familiar, that’s because he also starred in Patrick Dempsey’s most recent film, Made of Honor. Coincidence? Perhaps the two of them hit it off so much that Dempsey put a good word in at the Grey’s Anatomy headquarters. Or, perhaps it really is a coincidence.

Happy birthday Tommy Flanagan

Tommy Flanagan is a Scottish character actor who was born on July 3, 1965 in Glasgow, Scotland. He is best known for his work in Gladiator, Braveheart, and Smokin' Aces. Tommy is actually one of my favorite Scottish actors, and for some reason I have just never posted anything on him, so to make up for it, I hope he has a great day today.

The return of John Hannah

John Hannah is an underused and underrated Scottish actor. The last major thing I saw him in was The Mummy Returns which was released in 2001. His is luckily in the next movie in the franchise, The Mummy: the Tomb of the Dragon Emperor which hits theaters in the US on August 1. New TV spots for the film appeared on the film's official website, and thankfully John is in them. Long Way Down in theaters?

Long Way Down featuring Ewan McGregor will be shown in movie theaters in the U.S. this July. The two-hour director's cut will play for one night in 400 theaters on Thurs. July 31 at 7:30pm.

American audiences have not been able to watch the series on television and the director's cut is a prelude to the TV series which begins on Aug. 2 on Fox Reality Channel.

The series chronicles Ewan's 15,000 mile journey from Scotland to the southern most point of South Africa - Cape Agulhas.

Tickets go on sale June 27th and are only $10. You can go here to find out where the nearest movie theater showing the film is.

Robert Carlyle wins at the Edinburgh International Film Festival

Scottish actor Robert Carlyle won the PPG Award for Best Performance in a British Film for his role in Summer, with the jury calling it "a flawless performance in a great, uncompromising film, a film that touches the heart." Here's a synopsis of the plot from the production company's website:

Shaun and Daz are vibrant kids, wasted by their experience of education. All they have is their friendship and for Shaun his first love Katy. From the moment Shaun steps into our world he is bound to lose. Labelled as a violent bully he destroys himself and takes Daz with him.

Shaun has twelve years to reflect on an intense summer of love, sex and loyalty. But Daz's imminent death forces Shaun to go on a journey to confront his past. This is the story of a man full of intelligence and promise struggling to reclaim his life.

Wanted is number one around the world

Got this piece of great news:

Beaten by a friendly robot domestically, Wanted can take solace in dominating the foreign marketplace for the weekend ending Sunday, June 29.

According to media reports, the comic book adaptation took in a solid $33 million in its first week in foreign release, opening day-and-date on 1,922 screens in 22 markets.

Given director Timur Bekmambetov's blockbuster pedigree, Wanted had its biggest international opening in Russia, where the James McAvoy/Angelina Jolie vehicle made $11 million. Wanted added an additional $8 million in its United Kingdom opening.

In the United States, of course, Wanted finished behind the Pixar adventure Wall-E, but that robot romance only opened in six foreign markets, on 400 screens in Latin America, making $3.1 million foreign. It will continue its international roll-out in weeks to come.

How well did Wanted do?

Although James McAvoy's action film Wanted didn't debut as the No. 1 movie in the US (that honor went to Walle-E) it did open in second place with an impressive $51.1 million. Wanted was originally supposed to be released back in March, but Universal Studios decided the film was good enough to be moved to the summer. I saw both movies this weekend, and it was money well spent.

Ewan McGregor proves his hotness

Best of Ewan posted a gorgeous new photo of Ewan McGregor and Hilary Swank from the shoot of the upcoming historical drama Amelia. I'll probably get sued by Twentieth Century Fox for posting the picture because they already tore it down from Film Releases, one of the first websites that posted new photos. Seriously, to the Twentieth Century Fox executive who makes a living scouring the internet: please don't sue me. I'm trying to help with free promotion for the film. I'm not making a dime from this.
