Tìoraidh an-dràsta!

Tìoraidh an-dràsta! (Bye for now)

I'm sorry to announce that the Scottish Actors blog, Facebook page and Twitter account will be going into semi-hibernation until Spring 2014.

Due to ever-increasing family, work, study and personal commitments, I'm unable to update the blog on a regular basis.

Other than occasional 'big' announcements, there will be no further updates until the end of March 2014.

We're still looking for regular contributors to join the team from March 2014. If you'd like to collate a report on your favourite Scottish actor(s) for inclusion in our monthly updates from next Spring, please email scottishactors at gmail dot com.

Thank you for your support

Scottish Actors blog - hiatus extended

The Scottish Actors blog will be on hiatus for the next few weeks.

Due to an increase in family, work, study and personal commitments, I'm taking a short break.

The next updates will be posted on Sunday 12 May 2 June.

Hello post

Given the current demands on my ever-dwindling free time, I hadn’t planned on taking on another project this year, but when I read Saba’s farewell post, I was prompted to volunteer. This blog has been a wonderful source of information over the last three years, and I felt that it would be a great shame to see it discontinue. I have therefore offered to take over, and I only hope that I can do so in a manner that will uphold this blog’s excellent reputation.

To begin with, though, I will need to make some small changes in order to manage the blog, the Facebook page, and the Twitter account.

First of all, the most noticeable change will be the posting of updates that include several items of news rather than one, although I will maintain the tradition of posting about each actor individually.

Secondly, I will need to pare down the number of accounts followed on Twitter, purely for time-management purposes. I hope that no-one will be offended if they suddenly find themselves unfollowed by @ScottishActors; it’s nothing personal, but simply that I don’t have time to read through the timefeed of over 960 fellow tweeters!

Thirdly, I will need your help, dear reader, in finding new sites and blogs etc that are dedicated to our wonderful Scottish Actors. If you find any that are not already listed in the ‘Links’ on the right hand side of this page, please let me know.

Finally, I would like to thank Saba for creating and maintaining this excellent blog, and for helping me take these first tentative steps in her shoes. She’s a tough act to follow, but I hope I can make her proud.

Thank you.

Farewell post

I'm very sad that I have to write this, but this is going to be my final post on the blog. I hadn't planned on doing this so early in the year, but I realize that I can no longer post updates because of work. It's oddly painful to write this since this blog has been around for three years and I have enjoyed working on it.

I want to thank everyone who has stopped by to read or leave a comment. Thanks for all your tips and your support. I will miss interacting with people most of all. That's the thing about blogging. Eventually it becomes more about the community than the content. Which is why this is so hard to do.

In the off chance that anyone is interested in taking over the Scottish Actors blog you can contact me at saltireflower [at] yahoo [dot] com. Actually, if you want to contact me at all you can do so at that address. I might be a little slow in replying, but I will reply. Finally, I just wanted to share links to all the places online that I've gotten any information or inspiration from. Many of the people who run these sites have been blogging for way longer than I have, some of them since the 1990s, and they all do it out of love:

Thank you all,

Saba

3rd year anniversary

The truth is, the real blog anniversary was on December 8, but I lost track of time. This happens a lot this time of year.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the people who have made this year, and the years before it so wonderful and memorable. Thank you to everyone for leaving comments, sends e-mails, clicking the like button on Facebook, and Tweeting. I'm so grateful for your tips, photos, and suggestions.

Thanks especially to Kathy, Melinda, Rose, Ross, Dan, Swpnil, Mandy, and Hannele for their help this year.

Happy Holidays everyone!

2nd year anniversary

I had been meaning to post something to commemorate two years of the blog being up, but I'm one day late.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has supported the blog. Thank you for reading, for posting comments, for sending e-mails, for following on Twitter and Facebook. Thanks for your questions, your ideas, your reminders. Thank you for sending me links of things I've missed, forgotten, or overlooked. One of the most important things we have is our time. And for you to give the blog even a few minutes of your day means so very much to me.

This started off as a side project, but quite recently, it has helped me become a writer. Instead of talking about writing, and dreaming about it, I get paid a little to do it for a newspaper. I would never have had the courage to take writing this seriously a few years ago, and I've learned that even though it sounds like a cliche, your dreams really can come true. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and New Year and I look forward to doing this for many years to come.

Update on 'I Love You Phillip Morris' screening

I posted on April 6th that there would be an I Love You Phillip Morris screening in L.A. I received an e-mail from the Tisch West Alumni Council that stated the screening will not be open to the general public, and the general public will be sent away. Sorry if this has caused any confusion guys.

I'm back (again)

Hi everyone. I am so sorry that I've been gone for two whole weeks. I had to send my laptop to be serviced and I was promised that it would only take a day to fix. Then I was promised it would take three days. Then I was promised a week. Needless to say, promises were not kept.

Anyway, my lovely new computer has been returned and I can start posting again! I'll start posting on Sunday. The Oscars are on Sunday and since the Academy is being really secretive about the presenters let's hope that maybe Gerard Butler will get to be a presenter. Thanks for being patient you guys.

Update: Oscar presenters have been requested to not walk on the red carpet before the award ceremony. I think they're hoping that if you don't see what your favorite star is wearing, you will watch the show to see what they are wearing during the show. So if Gerard or anyone else is presenting we won't see them until they appear on stage. The Academy is acting very strangely this year...

Hey guys. I added a widget at the top of the sidebar to help get more people interested in the blog. So, I just thought I'd encourage you all to become a follower, and if you do you'll be displayed in the blog's Followers list.

BTW, thanks to Evie for being the first.

First Year Anniversary

Today is the first year anniversary of the Scottish Actors blog (OMG). Check out the very first post.

I wanted to do this statistic filled article about the number of posts I’ve had over the past year (355), or the number of visitors (80,411-thank you guys), but I decided to write a special thank you to everyone instead.

I am grateful to all the people who stop by and read my humble little blog. Thank you very much for supporting the blog with your e-mails, comments, and yes, even your lurking.

Okay, specific people I want to thank:

Octavia Violet – Thank you so much for supporting the site with all your helpful information, especially about movies, your wonderful sense of humor, and your suggestions.

Purple – I appreciate all the support you’ve given the blog and thank you so much for visiting, leaving comments, and accepting my Bill Nighy fascination. Oh by the way, if you ever want me to pimp a certain Bill Nighy site in my affiliates section I totally will!

Stillgerard – Has a beautiful Gerard Butler livejournal community and you should seriously check it out.

Youbecomeme – Thanks for all of effort you put into all the James McAvoy posts on ONTD! Where would I find all my James info without your hard work and dedication? Ahem, google news, you should hire her to do your work for you.

Jb_dean – Is a fan of Henry Ian Cusick and I am so glad that there are such dedicated fans out there. Thank you for visiting and commenting when I have a Henry post.

LoONaBLuE – My best friend, and little sister. Thank your for making the blog header for your technologically confused big sister :)

To all the affiliates: Natasha, Crmhpfan, Jess, Gerard Butler Fans, and the people at AnnaPaquinOnline – thank you for adding my blog and for sharing your passion for all the actors you support.

H., jennie, Evie, Sibia Marie, Kutty, ScottishHeart, Jannie H, everyone at imdb, etc. – thank you all for leaving comments.

Mostly I want to leave a little dedication to the family members I lost this year. I lost you very recently and I do not want to give away too personal stuff about you, I just want to say that I love you, I miss you, and I will never forget you. I hope that you rest in peace and somehow the pain we are all going through will give way to memories of better times when all it took for us to be happy was your presence on this earth. I love you so much and whenever I see and owl, or hear a familiar tune, I will think of you and hope that someday we will meet again.

I am so grateful for your participation and look forward to reading even more comments in the next year. By the way, I have lots planned for the next year, so stay tuned and you can always send a suggestion to saltireflower@yahoo.com.

Happy St. Andrew's Day

Today is St. Andrew's day in Scotland. It is the feast day of St. Andrew, Scotland's patron saint. I've never actually celebrated it, but if you are celebrating have a great day.

Back soon

Hey everyone. I'm just letting you all know that Tropical Storm Gustav is going to be over my little island for the next day or so and I may not be able to post anything new for a few days. I'll be back as soon as I can and thanks to all of you who read the blog and leave comments and stuff.

Introducing Snap Shots from Snap.com

I just installed a nice little tool on this site called Snap Shots that enhances links with visual previews of the destination site, interactive excerpts of Wikipedia articles, MySpace profiles, IMDb profiles and Amazon products, display inline videos, RSS, MP3s, photos, stock charts and more.

Sometimes Snap Shots bring you the information you need, without your having to leave the site, while other times it lets you "look ahead," before deciding if you want to follow a link or not.

Should you decide this is not for you, just click the Options icon in the upper right corner of the Snap Shot and opt-out.

New Affiliate

Scottish Actors has a new affiliate: Josh Brolin Online. It's the only active Josh Brolin fansite on the web so check it out if you're a fan. If you would like to be added to the list of affiliates just send an e-mail to saltireflower@yahoo.com.

Been gone for a while

I haven't posted in a few days, but I'm starting to feel better, so there will definitely be new stuff on Sunday and Monday. Thanks to people who are leaving all the kind comments and be sure to check back from time to time. Just a little reminder to all American fans of Torchwood - it's finally back on tonight (Jan. 26) on BBC America! Yay!
