Grey’s Anatomy’s Kevin McKidd will Live-Tweet the Season 9 première

As part of ABC’s Tweetapalooza week, when stars from new and returning ABC shows will live-tweet during their season premières, Grey's Anatomy fans will get an insider’s look at the Season 9 première (Season 9, Episode 1: "Going, Going, Gone") through Kevin McKidd’s (Owen Hunt) gorgeous blue eyes.

According to ABC, the celebrity tweeting frenzy begins with the Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 23, and continues through Thursday, September 27, the night of the Grey’s première.

Kevin will be representing the show on Twitter that evening @TheRealMcKidd, beginning at 9 p.m. PT. Note that East Coasters will have to wait until midnight to tweet along.

New movie project

Actor Kevin McKidd (Grey's Anatomy, Brave) has attached his name to a new film project according to Screen Daily. The movie, Indian Summer, will be written and directed by Brian Ward (Priscilla, Queen of the Desert), and is scheduled to begin shooting next May in the Scottish Highlands. The story surrounds a romance set in the same location in the year 1967.

Kevin McKidd: Grey's Anatomy musical / Speyside Sessions update

The stars of Grey's Anatomy showed off their singing skills on Sunday (18 March) for a one-off musical performance of the medical TV drama.

Creator Shonda Rhimes was joined by 10 cast members, including Chandra Wilson, Kevin McKidd, Jessica Capshaw and Sandra Oh, for the live benefit concert at the University of California, Los Angeles (Ucla).

It featured 11 songs, many of which were from the show's musical episode last March (2011), and the event, hosted by Oh and Eric Dane, raised money for the Actors Fund, a nonprofit organisation that provides care and services to entertainment industry professionals.

Rhimes told the audience, "I believe in the joy I get from watching TV, film and theatre, and a $25 donation to the Actors Fund would be saying you believe in the arts, too."

Update on Speyside Sessions

Hollywood star Kevin McKidd is producing charity album with Scots musicians

The actor, from Elgin, has joined forces with musicians in the north-east to form the Speyside Sessions collective in producing an album of Scottish folk music.

What began as a casual folk music session with friends and family has become a major project to release an album which will raise funds for the Save the Children charity.

Gathering at Hogmanay, the musicians recorded the album in less than a week, with the help of producer Nick Lloyd-Webber - son of Andrew Lloyd-Webber - and sound engineer Bryan Tolland, known from Scots band Del Amitri.

A post on the Speyside Sessions Facebook page reads: "In less than a week 29 tracks were recorded with a huge variety and mix of performers, from local budding musicians, phenomenal singers who'd never before recorded their voice and even jaded folkies whom until this session, thought they'd hung up their mandolins for good.

"The joy, magic and spontaneity of this week has been captured forever on a soon-to-be released album for charity."

The album is expected to be released in June.

Douglas Hamilton, Save the Children’s head of Scotland, said: "We’re delighted that Kevin McKidd has chosen to raise funds for Save the Children through the sale of the upcoming Speyside Sessions album.

"Kevin has been a supporter of Save the Children for a number of years and we are extremely grateful for the work he does for us.

"We look forward to hearing the album when it is released in June."

McKidd was brought up in Elgin and was a member of the Moray Youth Theatre, before he went on to study engineering at the University of Edinburgh.

It was while at university, and after joining the student theatre company, Bedlam Theatre, that he decided to make the move into acting full-time.

He stars as Dr Owen Hunt in hit US series Grey's Anatomy and has added his voice to the upcoming Disney/Pixar animation Brave, set in the Scottish Highlands.

'Grey's Anatomy': Season eight premiere spoilers revealed – video

Grey's Anatomy is set to return to Channel 15 in Tempe in September, and fans are being given more information about the upcoming season eight premiere.

E! Online released this information on Wednesday, and it comes straight from Kevin McKidd, the man behind Owen Hunt on the series. He said the following about the season premiere where the staff of Seattle Grace has to deal with a major sinkhole in the city:
"There's a big sinkhole in the opening episode. It's like a Towering Inferno episode. It's pretty crazy. So, it gives us a lot of cool medical stuff to do."

Kevin McKidd set for chart success after cover of Snow Patrol hit on US TV show Grey's Anatomy

Kevin McKidd could be heading for No1 in the charts after wowing millions of Grey's Anatomy fans in a special musical edition.

The Trainspotting and Rome actor has become an iTunes sensation in the US after covering the Snow Patrol hit Chasing Cars.

He sings it with co-stars Sara Ramirez and Chandra Wilson in the episode screened last night on US television. Due to be shown in the UK next month, it sees the stars of the hospital drama singing Gleestyle during a traumatic night.

A soundtrack of the episode made the US charts on pre-orders before the broadcast. Now Elgin-born Kevin, 37, is filming a music video for the series' DVD box set.

He said: "The DVD people are shooting two videos. One is my character singing the Gomez song How to Operate. I think we should have dry ice and a wind machine, and a kilt flowing in the breeze."

Kevin has played Dr Owen Hunt in Grey's Anatomy for three years, after making his US breakthrough with Rome, which is being screened on satellite channel TCM later this month.

Kevin McKidd reveals details of "Grey's Anatomy" musical episode

For those of us familiar with memorable Grey's Anatomy music selections from the past six-plus seasons, the show's musical episode is sure to bring back fond memories.

The episode will feature songs made popular by the series, like The Fray's "How to Save a Life" and Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars," both featured prominently in Season 2.

Kevin McKidd reveals that he's involved in both of those numbers, as well as singing Gomez's "How We Operate," from "Deterioration of the Fight or Flight Response."

Kevin McKidd directs 'Grey's Anatomy' webisodes

The first of the six Grey's Anatomy webisodes aired on ABC.com last Thursday. Many of the six webisodes were directed by Kevin McKidd, and will air online every Thursday until November 18.

"They're based around a new PR consultant's power struggle with Dr. Richard Webber [James Pickens, Jr.], who is trying to turn the image of the hospital around," explains McKidd. When the PR rep advises the hospital to produce a corporate sizzle reel, they search for the perfect on-camera representative "with disastrous results," says McKidd, who will pop up in the series along with Pickens, Jesse Williams (Jackson) and Sarah Drew (April). Kevin McKidd promotes 'Bunraku' at Fantastic Fest

Kevin, Josh Hartnett, and director Guy Moshe gave some red carpet interviews about working on Bunraku at Fantastic Fest 2010.

Did you do this movie during hiatus?

Kevin McKidd: "Funnily enough, I did this just after - this is how long ago we did this movie - I did this movie just after we wrapped Journeyman. This was two and a half years ago. It was pre-Grey’s Anatomy. In fact, I got the phone call about Grey’s Anatomy while we were in Bucharest and I asked Guy, 'What do you think?' I was asking all these guys whether I should do it or not. So that’s when it dates from."

How much time did you have to train?

Kevin McKidd: "I would say I started pre-training because I had to learn not only the martial arts side of it. A lot of my stuff is to do with manipulating the cane and the sword that my character uses. So I had to learn a lot of cane work and that kind of martial arts cane work, but also Guy had the idea of Killer #2 of being this kind of Fred Astaire, almost this dancer who can sort of tap dance his way through killing people. So I had to take dance class for a month before we even went to Bucharest, just to kind of make myself less flat footed than I actually am. Then once we got there, we probably had another two or three weeks and then during the filming, when we weren’t actually on the stages doing scenes, we had time off, the stunt crew would just grab us and strong-arm us into a rehearsal hall where we’d be drilling fights for the next sequence and the next. So it wasn’t like we had months and months to train. We had to actually do it as we were going."

It doesn’t sound like an indie movie.

Kevin McKidd: "It was like one of the highest end indie movies I’ve ever been a part of. I don't know what the budget was but, absolutely, it felt like a studio film with an independent sensibility, which is very cool."

How did it feel to wear the costume?

Kevin McKidd: "Me and Guy kind of sat down, we said we wanted this guy to be like Fred Astaire and that kind of stuff but we want him to be deconstructed instead of angular, so we came up with this weird waistcoat and stuff. It was good because we came to the vision of what he looked like together, little pink glasses with no stems and stuff. Actually, I decided that my character should have fully manicured nails at all times so I had to go to the nail salon once every two weeks to get new acrylic nails attached so I had these perfect acrylic nails that women have normally. I had to maintain that during the whole shooting because he wanted this feel of this guy who’s a perfectly coifed killing machine. It was actually tough to wear those nails, man." TVGuide.com: There's always a lot of baby talk on Grey's. Do you think that could be in the cards for Cristina and Owen?
McKidd: I think that would be interesting. I know there was originally a storyline that ended up being changed in Season 1, where Cristina got pregnant and they were going to have a baby, but they decided to save that for later. I wouldn't say that isn't going to happen, because we almost started that storyline a few seasons ago, but decided it was too much too soon. A lot of comedy would come out of that seeing the two of them face that together, because they're kind of an odd couple, especially as parents. [Natalie Abrams]

'Grey's Anatomy' gets a return date

The seventh season of Grey's Anatomy has reportedly been scheduled to start on Thursday, September 23 on ABC. Instead of the typical two hour season premiere the seventh season will be one hour instead.

As such, some of the questions going into September 23 are:

* How have Meredith and Derek bounced back from her miscarrying the little life that was inside of her for so sadly short a time?

* Where do things stand between Cristina and Owen? Yang entered the Season 6 finale not knowing where her man stood, only to see him pronounce her “the woman I love” during a harrowing moment. Has Hunt been backing up his words with actions? Is Teddy once and for all surgically excised from the mix?

* Lexie, poor Lexie: Has she given Alex the hook, seeing as his thoughts were all about Izzie as his life hung in the balance in the finale? Do she and Mark – who impetuously popped the question the week before the gunman crisis – have any chance at a second chance?

* Will Izzie return to Seattle, only to reveal that she is now married to Dr. Preston Burke?

* Is Arizona truly at peace with the notion of her and Callie mothering “10 babies on a beach in Spain”?

* Where stands Bailey’s nascent romance with gasman Ben – if only since Jason George is now shooting the Shonda Rhimes-produced midseason series, ‘Off The Map’?

* Was Webber empowered by his bit of bravado, where he stared down the shooter? Did that defining moment solidify his seat “on the wagon”?

* Now that Jesse Williams and Sarah Drew have been promoted to series regulars, how will Jackson and April fit into the SGH tapestry? Are their respective crushes (Cristina, Derek) behind them… or might there be unfinished business? [Matt Webb Mitovich]

Why did you do the Percy Jackson film?

The director Chris Columbus sent me a letter saying: ‘I really see you as being part of this, I’m a fan of your stuff.’ In this business you’re so used to rejection it’s very flattering when someone says they want to work with you. I’ve also never done a family film before and I’ve got kids aged seven and nine so it was nice for them to be able to see something I’ve done.

What films did you like when you were a child?

Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Star Wars, ET especially. Something about that story broke my heart as a boy and really made me want to become an actor.

How’s Grey’s Anatomy going?

It’s still one of the top dramas in America and doesn’t show any signs of losing popularity. It’s nice to know your job isn’t going anywhere for a little while.

Kevin McKidd writes about moving to LA & 'Percy Jackson'

Kevin wrote an article for Finch’s Quarterly Review Issue 7 (via mckidd_fans). In it he "writes about his move from Scotland, via Rome, to Los Angeles, where he has now settled and introduced haggis." Part of his article is posted below, and you can read the full thing over at the source.

...I feel very blessed with the opportunities I have had – to work with the incredible cast in Grey’s Anatomy and to be a key player in a feature film like Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

...Most of my scenes are with Sean Bean, who plays Zeus. I had never worked with Sean and it was an interesting experience as, initially, he comes across as reserved. Our first scene was at the top of the Empire State Building and I had to walk up to him (we play brothers in the film) and say, “Zeus”, and he turns to me and says, “Poseidon.” For some reason, on the very first take, these two lines seemed to tickle us and we just couldn’t get through them – there was just something so absurd about Sean Bean and me pretending to be Greek Gods, so it took us quite a while to get started. He is much more of a giggler than I would have imagined! Sean is from the North of England so it was quite amusing to have a Scotsman and a Northerner playing Greek Gods in an American blockbuster shooting in Vancouver.

When you get a bunch of British actors together there is a feeling that you could all be doing a play in some dodgy theatre above the pub. Everybody falls back to that same attitude. None of us works behind a desk for the very reason that we wanted to do something silly for a living. It’s always a laugh, and you are not allowed to take it too seriously.

Incidentally Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief will be out on DVD and Blu-ray on June 22 in the US and on July 12 in the UK.

Kevin McKidd to present at Prism Awards + new Foxlife interview

Kevin McKidd is scheduled to present at this year's Prism Awards on April 22 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The Prism Awards honors movies, music, comic books, and television that accurately depicts substance abuse, addiction, and mental health issues.

Kevin is nominated in the Performance in a Drama Series Multi-Episode Storyline category and Grey's Anatomy is nominated in the Drama Series Multi-Episode Storyline category.

New Kevin McKidd interviews

Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver talked to KSPR'S Christine Daues about Grey's Anatomy yesterday. Grey's Anatomy returns with new episodes tonight on ABC in the US.



Kevin also did a Fancast interview and talked about Grey's and the upcoming Percy Jackson movie. An excerpt from the interview is below:

Tell me about your role in the ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief’ (hitting theaters February 12).
I play Poseidon, the god of the sea. It’s a not a huge role, but I am Percy Jackson’s father. It’s a crazy fantasy/kids/action film that Christopher Columbus directed. I get to play an almost Obi-Wan Kenobi character.

What kind of costume do they have you in?
Well, there are two: There’s the period god costume with the breastplates and leather….

… and trident.
That’s right! And at the end of the movie, I’m walking around Manhattan as “civilian” Poseidon. That’s much more of a pea coat, fisherman-type look.
