New DVD cover for 'St Trinian's 2'

St Trinian's 2: The Legend Of Fritton's Gold will debut on DVD and Blu-ray on May 24 in the UK. The new DVD cover featuring David Tennant has been unveiled.

Renewed hope for 'Rex Is Not Your Lawyer' + new 'Hamlet' clip

NBC delayed David Tennant's Rex is Not Your Lawyer back in January, but it looks like the show might still have a chance at being in the fall lineup. NBC needs between 5 to 7 new dramas for the upcoming season:

REX IS NOT YOUR LAWYER: This off-cycle pilot staged a comeback after being pronounced dead when the network didn’t pick it up for midseason. The legal drama’s producers did more work on the pilot they had originally rushed, including adding voiceover. The reworked pilot tested well, and the project has received an order for two back-up scripts. [Deadline via ONTD!]

MovieWeb unveiled a brand new exclusive clip from Hamlet featuring David Tennant. After it airs on PBS on April 28, the DVD and Blu-ray will debut on May 4 in the US.

James McAvoy nominated for Olivier award & on the cover of Nylon Magazine

James has been nominated for a Laurence Olivier theatre award in the best actor category for Three Days of Rain at the Apollo theatre. James is nominated with James Earl Jones, Mark Rylance, Ken Stott, Jude Law, and Samuel West. Winners will be announced in London on March 21.



James is featured in the March 2010 issue of Nylon Guys.

James McAvoy: A very different kind of movie star.

Though he’s shared the screen with Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightley, and Anne Hathaway, James McAvoy is in no rush to be the next big name.

Stephanie Trong found out firsthand while spending a chilly evening in New York City with the Scottish actor. Here, a few of his secrets.

Why you never hear about him in the tabloids:
“I’ve only had somebody try and take pictures of me outside my house once in my entire life. And they stopped after about half an hour.”

How his resume is impeccable:
“Every now and again, [my agents] thought that I should do something, and I’ve been, ‘What the fuck are you thinking?’ But that’s only happened once or twice in my entire career.”

The co-star that left the biggest impression on him:
“I was intimidated by the humongity—this is a good made-up word—the humongity of Keira’s sort of world presence.”

Why it’s only a matter of time until he wins an Oscar:
“I was very sensitive. Cried easy. Enjoyed crying from an early age. Ehm, not in public. On my own. I think I recognized its therapeutic qualities early on. David Tennant's 'Hamlet' to air in April in the US + update on 'Rex Is Not Your Lawyer'

The Royal Shakespeare Company's 2008 stage production of Hamlet will air on PBS' Great Performances series on Wednesday, April 28 2010 at 8pm EST. Hamlet originally aired in the UK on Boxing Day in 2009 with more than 900,000 viewers.

NBC so far has refused to confirm any pilot pickups but the network is expected to make announcements very soon. It seems likely that they will pick up hour-long pilot Rex Is Not Your Lawyer. They reportedly plan to order 10 drama pilots for next season to replace Jay Leno's 10pm talk show. Stay tuned.

You can check out a preview of David Tennant in Hamlet. The Hamlet DVD will be released on December 28, 2009 after it airs on BBC 2 in the UK. It will air in the US sometime in 2010 on the PBS program Great Performances.

David Tennant nominated for theater award, 'Waters of Mars' air dates + more press

London's Evening Standard announced that David Tennant was nominated for Best Actor for his role in Hamlet. The winners of the 2009 Theatre Awards will be announced on November 23 at the Royal Opera House. Go here for a look at the full list of nominees.

Air dates for the next Doctor Who special, The Waters of Mars have been revealed. In the US, the special will air on BBC America on Saturday, December 19 at 9pm Eastern time. Remaining specials will air over the holiday season as a two-part special. The air dates for these remaining specials will be announced in early December.

The Waters of Mars will air in the UK on Sunday, November 15 at 7pm on BBC One.

The Waters of Mars and the two-part finale will debut on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, February 2, 2010.

John Barrowman to play Robin Hood + a podcast interview

John Barrowman is set to play Robin Hood in a Christmas pantomime at the New Theatre in Cardiff in an attempt to save the New Theatre from closure. The pantomime will be performed twice a day (72 times) during the holiday season.

Cardiff council finance executive Mark Stephens said: "John Barrowman in Robin Hood could help turn around the New Theatre.

"Our basic problem is lack of income. People are not going there."

Barrowman's casting has already sparked a sales frenzy, with a reported 35,000 tickets already sold.

Update on Angus Macfadyen's Medea

Annette Bening will star alongside Scottish actor Angus Macfadyen in the world premiere production of Medea. Angus Macfadyen will play Jason while Bening will play his ex-lover, Medea. The show will run at UCLA Live's Freud Playhouse from September 18 to October 18. Opening night is September 23 and tickets are on sale at www.uclalive.org and at the UCLA Central Ticket Office (310-825-2101), and at all Ticketmaster outlets. John Barrowman to star in 'La Cage aux Folles'

John Barrowman has joined the cast of the revival of La Cage aux Folles, which will start on September 14 and end November 28. Here's some more information from John's official website:

John will don his high heels and step into La Cage Aux Folles at the Playhouse Theatre, London, for a limited run from 14 September to 28 November 2009. He will take the role of Albin, the heart-warming diva drag queen, whose iconic "I am what I am" has become John's own signature song.

Gerard Butler back as the Phantom?

Andrew Lloyd Webber confirmed he will be making a sequel to The Phantom of the Opera and plans an opening night across three continents. Lloyd Webber wants to rehearse three different companies for the production and open at the West End, Broadway, and in Shanghai, China.

Both Hugh Jackman and Gerard Butler have been rumoured to be candidates to play the Phantom.

Phantom: Love Never Dies takes place a decade after the Phantom's dissapearance and is relocated from Paris to Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York where the Phantom will be reunited with Christine.

All three productions will premier at the end of 2009.

David Tennant withdraws from Hamlet until 2009

Awww poor David:

Doctor Who star David Tennant has withdrawn from all performances of Hamlet until next year after scheduling surgery for a slipped disc.

The actor was said to be devastated after pulling out of live performances of the Shakespeare play at London's Novello Theatre on Monday and Tuesday (08-9Dec08) because of the ongoing injury.

Tennant is now due to undergo surgery on his back on Thursday - and will not return to the stage show before Christmas, the Royal Shakespeare Company has confirmed.

And although he has branded his enforced absence "hugely disappointing", Tennant has lavished praise on his understudy Edward Bennett, who won standing ovations on Monday and Tuesday.

Tennant says, "My back problem has progressed to the point where it is currently impossible for me to carry on without surgery.

"I want to get back onstage as quickly as possible and I am very grateful to Ed who has courageously got to grips with the role but in a much shorter time. It's a fantastic achievement."

Tennant's run in the play is due to finish on 10 January.

James McAvoy in Three Days of Rain

I almost never post on Fridays but I was surfing and guess what I found guys?

Atonement star James McAvoy is to appear alongside ex-EastEnder Nigel Harman in a West End revival of Richard Greenberg’s Three Days of Rain.

The production will open at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, on February 10, 2009, following previews from January 30.

Directed by Jamie Lloyd, the show will be produced by Caro Newling for Neal Street Productions and Nick Frankfort and Tobias Round for Creative Management and Productions.

Who's excited? James McAvoy in the flesh! There is probably collective fangirl/fanboy cheering in London right now.

I haven't been able to find out much more than that yet but I'm sure there will be way more information out soon. So keep visiting for updates and I'll post new information as often as I can.
