Sean Connery to join the Bond line-up at the Oscars?

OSCARS bosses want to pull off a showbiz coup by bringing all six James Bonds together on stage at the same time.

Oscars bosses are trying to reunite the six Bond actors
Sean Connery could make a comeback at this year’s Oscars – as bosses try to get all six Bond stars on stage.
Sir Sean, 82, is retired from acting but bosses hope he will appear with current 007 Daniel Craig in a four-minute tribute to the films.
Last week, the televised tribute was announced and the other former 007s – Sir Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan – were invited to take part.
Sir Sean has shunned Bond reunions after a four-decade feud with film bosses over his pay and treatment.
But associates of the Scot say the Oscars offer is a “different proposition”.

He may also be joined by Adele, who would be making her first public performance in almost a year by singing her Bond theme hit Skyfall live on February 24.An Oscars source said: “Sir Sean has been invited to take to the stage along with Daniel and the other 007s. As yet, we’ve not had a no from him. Normally he is quick to turn things down.
“Sean’s relationship with the Oscars is good and we’re hoping he’ll appear.
“His issues with the Bond producers are not our business and we hope he will overlook that as we pay tribute to what he has done.
“It would be magnificent to see him up there with the other actors – and quite a coup.”
He added: “We’re very close to getting Adele to talk to us about a performance too. Until she is officially nominated this week for the best film song Oscar, we can’t invite her.”
Sir Sean earned just £2million for the Bond films and his image was used to promote the franchise in the 70s and 80s without him earning a penny.

Guess who was invited to join the Academy?

James McAvoy was among the 134 artists invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. Those who were invited to join the Academy “have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Those who accept the invitation will be the only additions in 2009 to the Academy’s roster of voting members.”

The Academy usually invites 166 members a year, and last year just 105 artists were invited to join. Those who accept will be added to the 2009 roster at an invitation-only September reception at the Academy’s Fairbanks Center for Motion Picture Study in Beverly Hills.

Ewan McGregor's 2010 Oscar chances

Is it ever too early to start speculating? Cinemablend and Rope of Silicon don't seem to think so and have three of Ewan's movies on their lists of 2010 contenders: Amelia, The Men Who Stare at Goats, and The Ghost. Cinemablend thinks Amelia has great chances:

Amelia
, Dir. Mira Nair
October 23

Who's in it: Hilary Swank, Richard Gere, Ewan McGregor, Virgina Madsen
What's it about: Biopic about the famed aviator Earhart.
What are its chances: Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank + period setting + famous real-life character + revered international director = Oscar bait to the max.
upcoming movie upcoming movie anticipation level
The Ghost and The Men Who Stare at Goats are on Rope of Silicon's list of 20 upcoming films. I'm going to refrain from making my own predictions. The moment a movie is written on my own Oscar list I've literally given it the kiss of death.

Could James McAvoy still go to the Oscars?

According to Awards Daily Los Angeles radio stations reported that the Writers Guild of America has reached a preliminary deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. This means there may be an Oscar ceremony on Feb. 24th after all. Neither the WGA nor the AMPAS have made any statements, and are not expected to make any until next week. Please Lord, let there be Oscars. Who's for seeing Atonement win an Oscar?
