Syfy cancels 'Stargate Universe'

Syfy has decided not to renew Stargate Universe for a third season. The show, which starred Robert Carlyle will end next Spring after the remaining ten episodes air.

Steve Weintraub from Collider conducted an interview with Robert Carlyle on the Stargate Universe Vancouver set. There are some spoilers in the interview. Stargate Universe returns with new episodes tomorrow (September 28) on Syfy in the US.

Robert Carlyle spoke to Fused Film at this year's San Diego Comic-Con and the interview is now online. He revealed some details on the second season of Stargate Universe, which is halfway through shooting, and will air on Syfy in October. You can watch the entire interview below.

Stargate Universe premiered with SyFy's best franchise season premiere performance in four years, since season 2 of Stargate Atlantis, with 2.3 million viewers. Among Adults 18-49, the 1.12 million viewers is the best performance for a Friday series premiere since Battlestar Galactica debuted on 1/14/05. Stargate Universe’s 2.3 million total viewers surpassed the 2.1 million total viewers that watched Dollhouse on Fox.



If you missed it you can watch it for free over at iTunes or at Syfy. It only works for people in the US, but the show does premiere in the UK tomorrow, October 6 and in Australia on Friday, October 9.

Exclusive clip from Stargate Universe

In this exclusive clip (via HitFix.com), Dr. Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle) finds himself at odds with Msgt. Ronald Greet who is ready to stop him from playing with the ship's computer -- a console that says his adjustments will blow up the vessel.



The two hour series premiere of Stargate Universe is this Friday at 9pm Eastern on SyFy in the US.

New Stargate Universe trailer

The trailer for Syfy's Stargate Universe played in movie theaters over the past weekend. If you watched Halloween II and The Final Destination 3D you probably saw it. Watch the trailer below:



Stargate Universe stars Robert Carlyle, Justin Louis, David Blue , Brian J. Smith , Jamil Walker Smith, Alaina Huffman, and Elyse Levesque.

Don't forget that Stargate Universe is scheduled to premiere in the US on Syfy on Friday, October 2 and in the UK on Sky 1 on Tuesday, October 6. There is also a report from SCI FI in Australia stating that the show will air every Friday night from October 9.

Stargate Universe to premiere in October in the UK

Stargate Universe which now stars Robert Carlyle is scheduled to premiere in the UK on Sky 1 on Tuesday, October 6. This is only 4 days after its US premiere on Syfy. There is also a report from SCI FI in Australia stating that the show will air every Friday night from October 9. Carlyle, who plays Dr. Nicholas Rush, is currently in Vancouver shooting scenes for the sci-fi spin-off and will be spending 8 months of the year in Vancouver with his family. In an interview with The Daily Record he explained that he was inspired by Tim Roth and fellow Scotsman Kevin McKidd to leave movies and try television:

He said: "In a way, Tim probably was the one who told me to do it. About 18 months ago, I decided to come to LA to stick my head above the parapet and see what's out here because so many of my friends were doing that.

Carlyle insists his change of medium - following in the footsteps of Brit actor mates Kevin McKidd and Tim- is no longer the backward step it once was.

Carlyle said:"I phoned Kevin up and told him that I might be coming to join him soon and he was delighted. So many actors are doing TV. It's not lack of work- it's very important to say that- it ain't about that. I can work anywhere at all in film and television.
