Dougray Scott takes Netflix subscribers to ‘Hemlock Grove’

Dougray Scott costars in the new Netflix series Hemlock Grove, which begins streaming on April 19.

When he was a little boy, actor Dougray Scott used to stow away in his father's car when his dad left for work as a salesman.
"I used to hide in the back until he drove so far away from the house that he couldn't take me back. I used to be fascinated by his preparation in the morning. And what it taught me - it didn't teach me then because I wasn't sure what I was looking at - but looking back on it, I realize why I had a fascination for it, because what I watched him do was try to form himself in the morning into this character so he could go out into the world and sell fridges and freezers.
"And whatever he was feeling, he had to suppress that in order to present this happy, likable, charismatic character to the people he wanted to buy his wares. And I just loved watching him do that. I was fascinated by it."
Scott is still studying characters who exhibit one thing, but are thinking another. He's bounced from the big screen in films like "Mission Impossible II" and "Ever After: a Cinderella Story" to the small screen in "Desperate Housewives" and the new thriller, "Hemlock Grove," premiering Friday on Netflix.
Scott grew up in a working-class neighborhood in Fife, Scotland. He longed to be a soccer player, but says he wasn't good enough. When he was 14 he discovered the play "Death of a Salesman."

Roundtable Interview with Famke Janssen and Dougray Scott for ‘Hemlock Grove’

In a new TV series for Netflix, actors Famke Janssen and Dougray Scott were present at last month’s WonderCon to promote this horror-mystery produced by Eli Roth.
The series follows a couple of friends who tried to hunt a killer who brutally murdered a teenage girl. But, in a mysterious town, everyone is hiding a secret leaving anyone as the suspect.

Bill Skarsgard and Penelope Mitchell hit the red carpet together to premiere their upcoming Netflix original series Hemlock Grove held at the Casa de la Bola on Wednesday (April 3) in Mexico City, Mexico.
The 22-year-old co-stars were joined on the carpet by their cast mates Famke Janssen, Dougray Scott, Landon Liboiron, and executive producer Eli Roth.

Dougray Scott: new role in 'Strike Back'

‘Strike Back’: Martin Clunes, Dougray Scott and Robson Green join Series 4

Sky has today announced that Martin Clunes, Dougray Scott and Robson Green will appear in the fourth series of Strike Back.
Currently filming on location in South Africa and Hungary, the new ten-part series will air on Sky1 this summer.
Green (Soldier Soldier) will play Lt Colonel Philip Locke, a commanding officer in chief will join the Section 20 team, while Clunes (Doc Martin) will play Sebastian Gray, a former MI6 agent turned independent intelligence officer working in Beirut. Scott (Mission Impossible II) will play James Leatherby, a wealthy rogue operative and self-styled war junkie.

Dougray Scott is the latest actor signed up for James Corden's new TV comedy project The Wrong Mans.

Scott, whose credits include Mission Impossible II, My Week with Marilyn and Desperate Housewives, joins an all-star cast.

Previously confirmed for the series are Dawn French, who will play Corden's mum, Silent Witness star Emilia Fox and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels actor Nick Moran.

Review: Death Race 3: Inferno

Is it a bad sign that the idea of a reality TV show about criminals racing to the death does not seem as outlandish as it once might have? It is not hard to believe that a significant number of people worldwide would pay to watch something like that on their computer in the privacy of their home. 

Because the concept isn’t completely unfathomable and because it’s a direct-to-DVD sequel, Death Race 3: Inferno really should be wilder than it is. Part 2 is solid B-movie fun and a big improvement over Paul W. S. Anderson’s remake. It is unfortunate then that part 3 feels like a step back. It wisely shifts the action outside of the maximum security prison but fails to adequately exploit the new location. 

British billionaire Niles York (Dougray Scott) bullies his way to a hostile takeover of Weyland Industries. His goal is to franchise Death Race, taking it global while increasing the number of locations and frequency of races. He has purchased crumbling prisons around the world and hopes to stage a race every 2 weeks. 

The first such race takes place in the Kalahari Desert of South Africa. The famous racer known as Frankenstein (Luke Goss, who took over for Jason Statham in part 2) is racing for his freedom, having won 4 consecutive races and being promised his release after the fifth. His team has been reassembled to support his cause, including Goldberg (Danny Trejo) and Katrina (Tanit Phoenix, lovely but a lousy actress). 

Frankenstein will spend 3 days racing through the Kalahari against 9 fellow criminals, including the first female racer. The smarmy and devious York will do his best to prevent him from winning, but the famous driver has a few tricks up his sleeve. 

Death Race 3 falls short by playing it way too safe, not taking full advantage of its premise or the new location. It lacks imagination. There are too many explosions to count (along with frantic editing and copious slow-motion) and most people perish in fiery crashes that have a perfunctory feel. The majority of the kills have little creativity. 

One particular scene highlights the movie’s problems. Before the first stage of the race begins, there is a pre-Death Race event to pick the navigators. It features 16 beautiful women, including an IRA terrorist and twin Swedish serial killers, fighting to the death for 10 spots. But they all look the same, it’s nearly impossible to make out who is fighting whom, and it’s over almost before it really starts. An opportunity wasted. 

There’s also way too much melodrama, most of it involving the budding relationship between Frankenstein and Katrina. It is unnecessary padding and doesn’t belong in a movie like this. 

Despite all of its problems, there is some fun to be had. The cast (outside of Phoenix) is good. Trejo in particular appears to be enjoying himself and gets some memorable and amusing quips. There’s infrequent but solid gore, particularly when a missile makes waste of a contestant attempting to escape. And every once in a while it displays a biting wit, such as when a voiceover notes that racing like this should not be attempted at home and unauthorized piracy of the event is “punishable by death, or life imprisonment if under age 15.” 

The random wit and gore end up being the exception to the rule though. Death Race 3 promises excess, but fails to deliver it. If part 4 ever rolls around, here’s hoping for fewer explosions and more gleeful and nasty depravity.

A Thousand Kisses Deep stars Dougray Scott (My Week with Marilyn, Mission Impossible II), Jodie Whittaker (Attack the Block, One Day, St Trinians), Emilia Fox (BBC’s Silent Witness, The Pianist, Merlin) and English acting legend David Warner (Titanic, Tron). The film is as electrifying as it is ambitious and comes to DVD 4 February 2013.

Witnessing the tragic and apparent suicide of an elderly woman, Mia (Whittaker) is left shattered and unnerved as she finds on the deceased a photograph of herself and her former lover (Scott).

Persuading a building’s custodian Max (Warner), Mia gains access to the woman’s flat hoping to find some answers to explain the tragedy. However, when inside, she finds only more questions as she is surrounded by her own possessions and an eerily familiarity.

Confused and disturbed, Mia is left fighting her past to see if she can change the future in this shocking and twisting psychological thriller.

Following on from the exclusive first-look images that were debuted almost a year ago, the official Facebook page has released some new images from British movie Last Passenger. 

The movie stars Dougray Scott, Iddo Goldberg, Joshua Kaynama, Kara Tointon and is directed by Omid Nooshin. This is the one of the first movies in the venture supported by both the BFI and Pinewood Studios who have joined together with Future Films /2B Pictures, Pathé and NDF International to co-produce the film.

Last Passenger tells the story of Lewis Shaler (Dougray Scott), an overworked doctor and devoted single dad heading home with his young son on the last train from London. When he strikes up a relationship with a beautiful and flirtatious stranger, Lewis believes life is finally looking up. But events then take a dark turn when he discovers the guard has mysteriously vanished and the brakes have been sabotaged. Unknown to the handful of remaining passengers, a vengeful sociopath has taken control of the train and is hell-bent on crashing it, taking his passengers with him to the grave.

We’ve not got a release date as yet but as you’ll see from these rather stunning photos and concept art, the movie is coming along nicely!

An official poster has been revealed for the Netflix original series Hemlock Grove, and we have it for you right here along with the titles of the first few episodes.

Eli Roth's Hemlock Grove stars Famke Janssen, Bill Skarsgard, Landon Liboiron, Lili Taylor, Kandyse McClure, Freya Tingley, Dougray Scott, Aaron Douglas, Tiio Horn, and Penelope Mitchell. It's a Gaumont International Television production.

Written by Brian McGreevey and Lee Shipman based on McGreevy’s Gothic horror novel, Hemlock Grove, consisting of 13 one-hour episodes, revolves around the murder of a young girl found close to the former Godfrey steel mill. The suspects in her killing include Peter (Liboiron), a 17-year-old Gypsy kid from the wrong side of the tracks, and Roman (Skarsgard), the arrogant Godfrey scion, whose sister, Shelley, is disturbingly deformed and whose mother, Olivia (Janssen), is the beautiful and controlling grand dame of Hemlock Grove. Scott plays Norman Godfrey, the older brother of Olivia’s late husband, JR, one of the founders of the Godfrey Center for Biomedical Technologies. Wealthy, but with modest tastes and an equally modest home, Norman is sickened by Olivia’s displays of ostentation and the way in which she spoils her son. Horn portrays a Gypsy witch-prostitute whose confidence games are a mask for dark supernatural abilities.

Dougray Scott: Doctor Who photo, and Death Race 3 trailer

• Doctor Who sneak peek

Thanks to Doctor Who cinematographer Mike Southon (via Kasterborous), we have a sneak peak at his episode from the second half of Series 7.
The pic (above) features the Doctor alongside Dougray Scott, who was previously confirmed to be guest starring as a professor. The Doctor doesn’t look too happy with him here which makes you wonder if Scott is up to no good.
Southon lists the episode as 'The Hider in the Hous'e, although guest star Jessica Raine’s online CV originally stated it was 'Phantoms of the Hex'. As ever, episode titles are subject to change and either could just be a working title.
Whatever it ends up being called, it’s written by Who newcomer Neil Cross, directed by Jamie Payne and will air in 2013.

‘Sinbad’ To Launch On Sky 1 HD

Epic fantasy drama Sinbad will launch on Sky 1 HD in July, and it promises a 21st century take on the classic 8th century hero.

Sinbad is a new production from the Emmy and BAFTA winning Impossible Productions, and its all about the iconic mythological character.

Starring Dougray Scott (Mission Impossible II, My Week With Marilyn), Evanna Lynch (Harry Potter), Mathew Horne (Gavin & Stacey) and Lee Ingleby (Inspector George Gently), they will be joined by a host of well-known faces, including Lost’s Naveen Andrews.


Scott plays Father La Stessa who relishes his power over the people, manipulating and often killing them with his fire.Father La Stressa is a deeply deceptive and self-serving man who makes promises to Philippe (Horne) which Sinbad reveals to be untrue. As Sinbad tries to help Philippe, his crew discover that Father La Stressa has powers they’ve never seen before.

Sinbad’s adventures will also include an encounter with Alehna (Lynch), Taryn’s (Orla Brady) fourteen-year-old daughter whom she believed had died several years ago from an illness. Alehna has had a lonely existence and when Sinbad’s crew find her, she will reveal a story that will make Sinbad think twice about who he can trust.

Sinbad will launch on Sky 1 HD on the 8th of July at 7pm.

Dougray Scott on Doctor Who Series 7 role
Dougray Scott was interviewed on This Morning earlier today and confirmed his guest role in Series 7 of Doctor Who. The Scottish actor was spotted on set at the start of the month during filming.
“Yes I did an episode of Doctor Who,” he said. “They asked me to do an episode of Doctor Who. I love the show, I think it’s fantastic.”
He revealed he will be playing a professor, but unfortunately no further details were given.

Dougray Scott: Doctor Who and Quatermain casting news

• ‘Doctor Who’ casts Dougray Scott in guest role

New leaked press photos from the set of Doctor Who have revealed that Soldier Soldier star Dougray Scott will appear in an upcoming episode.

The Daily Mail snapped a photo of the Scottish actor (who has also appeared in Desperate Housewives, Heist, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) will feature in the Neil Cross penned episode 11, which appears to be a period drama of sorts.

He will star alongside new companion Jenna-Louise Coleman in her sixth episode. The Mail suggests that he could be in a cameo role, but the newspaper also suggests that anything and everything will kill you – so we’re just sticking with the photo evidence and considering Scott as a guest star of a yet indeterminable length.

• Dougray Scott being lined up for Indiana Jones inspiration Allan Quatermain

Scottish star Dougray Scott is reportedly in the frame for a new TV take on Victorian literary hero Allan Quatermain.

The Glenrothes-born Mission Impossible 2 and Desperate Housewives actor, 46, is apparently top of the list to take the role in the newly announced 10-part series based on Sir H Rider Haggard’s classic sequence of adventure novels.

English-born professional big-game hunter Allan Quatermain was the protagonist of 1885 novel King Solomon's Mines and its various prequels and sequels.

It was another Scot, Sir Sean Connery, who last played the character in 2003 graphic novel adaptation The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen – though his version of the character was a very different take.

The new series is being produced by Scottish film and television boss Douglas Rae.

Rae, whose previous TV work includes Mistresses, Camelot and Monarch of the Glen, explained: “Allan Quatermain is one of the greatest adventure heroes in all of literature.
“In the years since his introduction, he has subsequently inspired many hugely successful characters and franchises, including the Indiana Jones series.”
