Dougray Scott promotes 'Father And Son'; discusses future projects

Dougray has been doing interviews to promote Father And Son which premiers on Monday, June 7 on STV and ITV1 in the UK. It will air over four consecutive nights. He talked about his latest role in Father and Son, but also revealed a few details about his upcoming films. You can read the full interview over at The Daily Record.
...In Father And Son, which also stars Sophie Okonedo and Stephen Rea, Dougray plays ex-criminal Michael O'Connor who returns to Manchester from a quiet life in Ireland in order to save his estranged teenage son Sean - played by Reece Noi - from prison and to redeem his own troubled past.

...As far as work is concerned, he has a number of film and TV projects in the can, including a TV pilot for new Boston-set series Quinn-Tuplets in which he plays a documentary film-maker who chronicles a family of quints' lives.

Also complete are Roland Joffe movie There Be Dragons and comedy No Ordinary Trifle, in which he plays opposite his real-life wife.

He's also attached to Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh's new film The Magnificent 11 - an updated remake of classic western The Magnificent Seven, with the action set around an amateur football team saving an Indian restaurant.

Another of his projects is former Skids frontman Richard Jobson's mooted war film Into The Valley, which follows Scottish soldiers returning home after serving in Afghanistan and has been inspired by the hit Skids song of the same name.

He said: "I'm very keen to do them. The Magnificent 11 is very much on the cards and I did New Town Killers with Richard, who is a fantastic director. He's started to get the funding together so hopefully it will all come together. He's much in demand and chooses all his projects, like Father And Son, by making sure business is personal. Dougray Scott at the 'New Town Killers' premiere

Dougray Scott made an appearance with his lovely wife (photo above), actress Claire Forlani, at the premiere of New Town Killers in Edinburgh yesterday. After the film's screening the cast and crew attended a private party. Here's a synopsis of the film:

In the film, a teenager from a housing estate agrees to play a sinister chase game, dreamt up by two private bankers, to help his debt-ridden sister. [BBC News]

You can head on over to the Daily Record to watch a video of Dougray giving an interview at the premiere. Sorry, I can't embed the video.

Thanks so much to Susan for pointing us to the photo and the interview.

Scottish films at the Festival de Cannes

May is pretty much Cannes Film Festival month (this year it runs from May 14 to May 25), which is huge for the film industry. Indie films New Town Killers starring Dougray Scott and Stone of Destiny starring Billy Boyd will be represented at the festival. The production team of New Town Killers will try to sell the film and attendees can view a promotional screening at their office at the festival, while a filmmaker from Stone of Destiny will be on a panel about producing and making films in Scotland.

I'm not sure if Stone of Destiny will actually be screened at Cannes because there are reports that its world premier will be at the 62nd Edinburgh International Film Festival (June 18 to June 29) where it will be competing for the UK Film Council-sponsored Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature. Here's a synopsis of Stone of Destiny from Newsahead:

The Anglo-Canadian film is the story of Ian Hamilton, a dedicated nationalist who reignited Scottish national pride in the 1950s with his daring raid on the heart of England to bring the Stone of Scone back to Scotland. Often referred to as the Stone of Scone, it was the stone upon which all monarchs of Scotland were crowned from the very first King back in 847. After a long and colorful history, it ended up back in Edinburgh Castle 11 years ago and still resides there.

You can read a synopsis of New Town Killers in a previous post.

Dougray Scott's new 'Killer' movie

Dougray Scott's upcoming thriller New Town Killers recently earned over £350,000 in an effort to finance the project. The film is one of many projects being financed in order to help the Glasgow film industry. Here's a plot summary from imdb:

Two private bankers, Alistair and Jamie, who have the world at their feet get their kicks from playing a 12 hour game of hunt, hide and seek with people from the margins of society. Their next target is Sean Kelly a parentless teenager who lives with his sister on a housing estate on the outskirts of Edinburgh. She's in debt, he's going nowhere fast. Sean agrees to play for cash. He soon realises he's walked into twelve hours of hell where survival is the name of the game.

The film is set for a 2009 release.
