Angus Macfadyen: new role in 'Turn'

AMC’s Revolutionary War-era drama pilot Turn has added two more to the cast today. On board for the project are Pirates of the Caribbean’s Kevin McNally and Chuck’s Angus Macfadyen. They’ll join previously cast Jamie Bell who is in the lead role. Turn was ordered to pilot back in November along with another drama pilot, Halt & Catch Fire. The show takes place in 1776 and surrounds a New York farmer named Abe Woodhull (Jamie Bell) whose life is changed when he and his childhood friends band together into a spy network known as The Culper Ring, and directly affect the outcome of the fight for independence in America. Deadline says Kevin McNally will be joining the pilot as Abe’s father Richard Woodhull, a respected local magistrate. He is loyal to the King on the surface, but it’s hinted that he may merely be throwing his lot in with the side he believes will win rather than the side he hopes will win. Angus Macfadyen (Braveheart) comes on board the project as war hero Robert Rogers, who fought alongside George Washington in past battles but has descended into alcoholism and lost everything gambling in England, returning in disgrace.

Autumn/Winter Preview: 'Anna Karenina'

One of the September movies that everyone really should be looking forward to is the big screen adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina.

And why should everyone be excited? Well it marks the return to the director's chair for the fantastic Joe Wright in what will be his first movie since Hanna.

Wright has already made an impact with Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, The Soloist and Hanna and he looks set to do the same as he reunites with Keira Knightley.

This will be the third time that the pair have worked together but the first time since 2007 as the Oscar nominated actress will take on the title role.

And Knightley is joined by a superb support cast as Aaron Johnson, Jude Law, Matthew Macfayden, Kelly Macdonald and Emily Watson will all star alongside her.

Wright is one of the most exciting young Brit directors and adaptations really do seem to be his thing as he brings the story faithfully off the page while putting his own spin on it.

The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children.

As Anna (Knightley) questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.

Anna Karenina could be one of the early Oscar contenders as we all know how the Academy are suckers for a good period piece - not to mention that the source material is highly acclaimed.

This movie looks set to be an incredibly lavish production and Wright always seems to bring the best out of Knightley while she seems to thrive under his direction.

This is one of the movies that I have been looking forward to ever since I heard that Wright was on board and an early trailer shows that it will not disappoint.

Angus MacFadyen: Copperhead update

Copperhead, Ron Maxwell’s latest film now shooting in Atlantic Canada, is ostensibly about families on the homefront split by the bloodshed of the American Civil War.

But as much as the director of Gettysburg and Gods and Generals is keeping his focus on events in 1862 and telling a compelling story, Maxwell insists his latest Civil War costume drama will inevitably be seen by cinema-goers as an echo of America’s reaction to current events in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“I keep it (Copperhead) with as much integrity as I can in 1862, but people will watch this film and leave the theatre and say, ‘Wow, it was like a 150 years ago, and it’s like now,’” the director said from King’s Landing, New Brunswick, where he’s shooting the Jason Patric and Angus MacFadyen-starrer set in 19th century upstate New York.

Angus Macfadyn: Henry IV rumour

 

In a recent interview, actor Harry Lennix revealed that:

“Right now I’m doing what I think is the first black Shakespeare film ever done, which is called “H4”. It’s a reconfiguration using Shakespeare’s language of “Henry IV Part I and Part II”. I play Henry IV in it along with an estimable cast including Keith David, Angus Macfadyen from “Braveheart”, we have a number of young and talented actors.”

Harry Lennix also said that he's producing the film.

On IMDb, Michael Dorn is listed as playing the part of Henry IV, but Shakespeare fansite Bardfilm clarifies:

“Michael Dorn will not be playing Henry IV in the finished version of the film. Scheduling conflicts prevent him from being available for the reshoots. But Harry Lennix, who played Aaron (and played him brilliantly) in Julie Taymor’s Titus, will take over the role.”

 

The cast of H4 also includes The Walking Dead's Jeryl Prescott Sales and Equilibrium's Angus Macfadyen as Sir John Falstaff.

Update: IMDb also says that Harry Lennix is playing the part of Macduff in Macbett: The Caribbean Macbeth, alongside the likes of Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Blair Underwood, and, according to rumours, Danny Glover.

Angus Macfadyen to play nefarious spy on Chuck

Angus Macfadyen has signed on for an extended role on Chuck.

The actor - who will soon appear opposite Matt Damon in We Bought a Zoo and who has guest-starred on Criminal Minds - will portray Nicholas Quinn on the fifth season of this NBC favorite. The character will be a former CIA agent who is now a spy-for-hire... for bad guys.

Look for Macfadyen to appear on Chuck's final four episodes.

He joins a long list of Chuck guest stars, including Craig Kilborn and Mark Hamill (on the October 28 premiere); Tim DeKay; and Cheryl Ladd as Sarah's mom.

Pound of Flesh release on Blu-ray

Independent distributors Cult Epics have revealed that they are preparing a Blu-ray release of Tamar Simon Hoffs' Pound of Flesh (2010), starring Malcolm McDowell, Angus Macfadyen, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Timothy Bottoms, and Dee Wallace. Technical specs and region coding status for this release are unknown at the moment, but the preliminary release date set by the distributors is November 15th.

Barden College's most revered professor, Noah Melville (Malcolm McDowell), meets his tragic downfall in the shoddy underworld where sex meets scholarship, in Tamar Simon Hoffs' dark comedic thriller.

Professor Melville teaches the most popular Shakespeare class at the idyllic college. His beautiful wife and daughter adore him, as do his students. Yet all is not as it seems. Between lectures, the professor runs an upscale escort service using gorgeous coeds whose steep tuition is financed through Melville's prestigious "Scholarship" program. Pillars of the community, faculty, and the school's wealthy chairman of the board, Cameron Morris (Timothy Bottoms), are among Melville's satisfied clients.

Charges of abuse of force have relegated hardened Detective Patrick Kelly (Angus Macfadyen) to a lowly desk job in Barden, where his only distraction is his feisty boss, Sergeant Rebecca Ferraro (Elizabeth Rodriguez). When an unidentified young woman's body is found near campus, Kelly intuitively suspects the cocky Professor in the crime. A late night alcohol driven brawl unexpectedly implicates Cameron.

Kelly and Ferraro's rough interrogation is stunted by the Chief of Police, who deems the case closed. Furious, Kelly relentlessly seeks justice for the dead girl, leading to Melville's arrest for pandering.

New Images released for Cameron Crowe’s ‘We Bought a Zoo’

HeyUGuys has a great new batch of images released by 20th Century Fox for Cameron Crowe’s new movie, We Bought a Zoo. They come via USA Today and really give us a sense of what we can expect from this family movie which is set to hit cinemas in both the US and UK around Christmas.

It stars Matt Damon​, Scarlett Johansson​, Elle Fanning, Carla Gallo, Thomas Haden Church​, Angus Macfadyen and is based on the true story of a father (Damon) who moves his young family to the countryside in in Southern California to renovate and re-open a struggling zoo.

Angus Macfadyen NOT in "No One Lives"?

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Adelaide Clemens (Silent Hill: Revelation) and Lee Tergesen (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) are the actual stars of No One Lives.

It was previously stated that Alexis Dziena and Angus Macfadyen had been cast, although that appears to have been misinformation.

WWE Studios announce 'No One Lives' cast

WWE Studios and Pathe UK have rounded out the cast of Ryuhei Kitamura's horror thriller "No One Lives" with Angus Macfadyen, Alexis Dziena, Laura Ramsey, Lindsey Shaw, America Olivo, "Super 8"-thesp Beau Knapp, "Flying Lessons"-helmer Derek Magyar and WWE wrestler Brodus Clay.

Luke Evans had already been tapped to play the lead in the pic when it was announced at the Cannes Film Festival.

WWE and Pathe are co-financing the production that will start lensing next week in New Orleans. It's WWE's first horror pic since 2006's Kane-starrer "See No Evil," which grossed more than $18 million worldwide.

Kitamura ("Midnight Meat Train") is directing "No One Lives" from a script by David Cohen ("Underground"). Story concerns a group of local criminals who abduct a wealthy couple, intending to torture them. They get a surprise when the man (Evans) turns out to be far more psychotic than any of them.

Milk & Media's Harry Knapp and Elton Brand are producing along with WWE's Mike Pavone and Kami Naghdi of Constance Media.

Pathe brought the project to WWE and will handle foreign sales, in addition to releasing the film in France.

Macfadyen will soon be seen in Cameron Crowe's "We Bought a Zoo" and the indie "Hirokin" alongside Ramsey, who recently appeared in "Kill the Irishman." Dziena was last seen in Disney's "When in Rome," while Olivo appeared in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." Project marks a return to horror for Shaw, who recently wrapped the lead in "The Howling: Reborn."

Macfadyen is repped by Innovative Artists and Kramer Management, while ICM reps Dziena. Paradigm reps Shaw and Knapp along with Cutler Mgmt. and Margrit Polak Mgmt., respectively. Magyar is repped by Framework Entertainment, while CAA and Luber Roklin Entertainment rep Ramsey.

Angus MacFadyen is reportedly in talks to join cast of Cameron Crowe's We Bought a Zoo alongside Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church, and Elle Fanning. He's in talks to play the head zookeeper. The film is scheduled to open on December 23, 2011.

The comedy-drama, based on the memoir by Benjamin Mee, with a script from “The Devil Wears Prada” writer Aline Brosh McKenna, follows Mee (Matt Damon) as a single father who attempts to fulfil his late wife’s wish of moving their family to the titular animal sanctuary. Damon’s joined by the likes of Scarlett Johansson, as love interest Kelly, Thomas Haden Church, as Damon’s brother, and Elle Fanning and Patrick Fugit as other zoo employees. [Oliver Lyttelton]

Angus Macfadyen signs up for 'Hirokin'

Angus Macfadyen has joined the cast of Alejo Mo-Sun's Hirokin alongside Wes Bentley, Julian Sands, Jessica Szohr, and Laura Ramsey. Hirokin is currently shooting in Los Angeles, and a film synopsis is below:

The story centers around a reluctant hero who must face the dark parts of his past and choose between avenging his family’ murder or helping to free people who have long faced abuse. Bentley will star as the problem plagued hero while Szohr will play a cunning temptress with Ramsey cast as the heroine. Macfadyen will play a tribal leader and Sands will be the nemesis of the film. Update on Angus Macfadyen's Medea

Annette Bening will star alongside Scottish actor Angus Macfadyen in the world premiere production of Medea. Angus Macfadyen will play Jason while Bening will play his ex-lover, Medea. The show will run at UCLA Live's Freud Playhouse from September 18 to October 18. Opening night is September 23 and tickets are on sale at www.uclalive.org and at the UCLA Central Ticket Office (310-825-2101), and at all Ticketmaster outlets.
