Witches work magic across Europe
A modern retelling of The Wizard of Oz, due to air in the UK this Christmas, has been picked up by four other broadcasters across Europe.
The Witches of Oz is produced by Palace Imaginarium in the US and distributed by MarVista Entertainment.
The UK’s Channel 5 will show the miniseries as part of its Christmas line-up. MarVista has also sold the show into Italy (Fox), Germany (RTL) and France (France 4), and to AXN across Central Europe.
The story follows a children’s writer named Dorothy who discovers the world of Oz featured in her books is real and must stop the Wicked Witch of the West when she comes to New York City.
The cast includes Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings, The Goonies) and Billy Boyd (Lord of the Rings).
The writer/director is Leigh Scott, with Christopher Campbell of Palace Imaginarium exec-producing and producing together with Eliza Swenson.
