James McAvoy: new 'Trance' set photos

From I Need My Fix:
Danny Boyle is either doing some serious reshoots for his latest film, Trance, since it was supposed to have gone into post-production in November 2011, or that was untrue and it was never completed in the first place. Shooting has been going on for the past three weeks in London and today we have some new pics from the set that reportedly shot on Wednesday October 17, 2012.
I know Boyle took a hiatus from his film related duties to focus on producing the opening and closing ceremonies of the London Olympics, but this movie was supposed to be released in 2012. I’m thinking that’s not going to happen.
In any case, enjoy the pics of James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson and director Danny Boyle on the London set. (There are also a couple of a bloody McAvoy from late September via WeGotThisCovered.)  Trance also stars Vincent Cassel, whom we haven’t seem yet.

Tony Curran: 'Defiance' news, updates, and interviews

‘Defiance’ set tour: exploring the new world with the cast and filmmakers
SyFy’s new series Defiance débuts on television next April, but it’s starting to feel much closer after I had a chance to do a set visit earlier this week, which revealed a lot about the show and how executive producer Kevin Murphy and his team are making this alien world come alive on Earth.

The series, which is set in the not-too-distant future, follows life in the town of Defiance, formerly known as St. Louis, a number of years after a war with aliens races, collectively known as Votans, has left our planet partially terraformed into something not quite Earth-like, and not hospitable to the aliens either.

Forced to come here after their own solar system was destroyed, the aliens have no other option but to find a way to live with the humans now, and humanity finds itself on a planet that barely looks like home, with new troubles facing them in all directions.

Now, normally, when you’re invited onto any set, the word of the day is “discretion”. Media can’t tweet spoilers, we can’t post photos or videos ahead of the show’s release, and we’re told that we can’t just shoot everything we see on set.

Thanks to the great people of SyFy though, the plan for the press tour was to open the doors of Defiance and show off what’s coming from this killer-looking series, which is also being prepared simultaneously as a massive multiplayer game.

On set, the press cohort was treated to breakfast before we were broken into groups to tour the space. My group was lucky enough to be led by Murphy himself, who explained the sets and spaces, and answered just about every question we could think to ask.

The cast on set for our visit included Grant Bowler (playing Jeb Nolan), Tony Curran (Datak Tarr), Graham Greene (Rafe McCawley), Julie Benz (Amanda Rosewater), Mia Kirshner (Kenya), Jaime Murray (Stahma Tarr), and Stephanie Leonidas (Irisa), who all discussed what it was like filming this unique series and the challenges adapting to the languages, and preparing for the roles.

April 2013 can't come soon enough, because that's when Defiance will launch as both a dramatic TV series from Syfy and an immersive MMO designed by Trion Worlds. And to what Defiance has in store for us, check out a new behind-the-scenes video focused on how the writing, cinematography and music will come together to create a new sci-fi universe.

From the mind of Farscape creator Rockne S. O'Bannon, and with a cast that includes Mia Kirshner (24), Jaime Murray (Dexter), Tony Curran (The Pillars of the Earth), Stephanie Leonidas (MirrorMask), Julie Benz (Angel) and Grant Bowler (True Blood), Defiance will chronicle the world-changing events on Earth as seven alien races begin to move in on the planet ... and the war that ensues when negotiations don't go so well.

But because Defiance is an interactive experience, viewers will be able to go inside the universe to make their own choices, blending videogame action with dramatic television. Check out the new video for an insider's look at the world of Defiance

James McAvoy: movie updates

Trance set photos
This series of set photos gives us our first look at James McAvoy in Danny Boyle's current film project Trance. The photos were provided by Boyle himself on his Facebook page.

The movie is a thriller that tells a story about about an art heist gone wrong, and it's also been described as having the same dark, sexy, hard-edged tone of Boyle's other films like Shallow Grave and Trainspotting.

The movie will be released by Fox Searchlight on March of 2013. As a fan of Boyle's work, I'm looking forward to seeing how this one turns out!

Welcome to the Punch gets a release date
James McAvoy is starring alongside the likes of Mark Strong in Welcome To The Punch, which is now lined up for a March 15th 2013 release date.

Welcome To The Punch finds ex-criminal Jacob Sternwood (Strong) forced to return to London when his son is involved in a heist gone wrong. This gives his nemesis, detective Max Lewinsky (McAvoy), one last chance to catch the man he’s always been after. As the two enemies hurtle towards an unavoidable face off, they start to uncover a deeper conspiracy they both need to solve in order to survive.

Written and directed by London born film maker, Eran Creevy, Welcome to the Punch was filmed across the London and was given unprecedented access to Canary Wharf.

 James McAvoy film 'not humble'

James McAvoy has said his new thriller doesn't feel like a British movie.
The actor stars in London-based movie Welcome To The Punch, the second film by British writer/director Eran Creevy.
But X-Men star James told Empire magazine: "The script didn't feel like it had the humility and humbleness of a British film
"Don't get me wrong - I love British film and I love gritty, British drama. But we're not trying to go, 'This is the real world.' We're going, 'Here's a... rip-roaring, really emotionally powerful piece of entertainment,' you know?"
James plays troubled Detective Max Lewinsky in the film, due out next year, which also stars Mark Strong.
The director told the mag that James was prepared to make his character unlikeable.
"A lot of actors would say, 'I can't be seen doing this!' James is like, 'I'll do that. I want him to be arrogant and pig-headed and bitter'," he said.

Karen Gillan begins shooting her first feature film in Glasgow

Karen Gillan steps out in masculine suit while shooting her first feature film in Glasgow
It was her first day on set for her début feature film, and Karen Gillan certainly made make her mark by stepping out in a masculine suit.

Although not many people could carry off the brave look, the Scottish star - who is bowing out of her role as Amy Pond in Doctor Who later this year - looked chic and sophisticated in the charcoal grey ensemble while on location in Glasgow.

The 24-year-old actress appeared to be having a whale of a time as she was snapped on the set of new movie Not Another Happy Ending.

David Tennant: 'True Love' & 'The Spies of Warsaw' updates

True Love
The BBC have released some promotional pictures of former Doctor Who David Tennant and companion Billie Piper from an upcoming BBC drama, True Love

This five-part series will be "stripped" across the week (Monday to Friday), starting June 18 on BBC One with Tennant's episode (Piper's is the third). Actor David Morrissey (The Next Doctor) is also set to star in an installment.

True Love explores five powerful and overlapping love stories set in the same town. Each story looks at a different relationship and explores a different dilemma or situation. When it comes to love and relationships, there is never an easy "right answer" – telling the truth is complicated, and the conflict of desire and responsibility can be explosive.

The Spies of Warsaw
David Tennant is in Poland at the moment, filming The Spies of Warsaw.

From David Tennant on Twitter:

A very short video clip of David Tennant in Poland has been posted onto the internet.
The webpage is about the signing of the cooperation between TVP (Poland) and BBC (UK) because the Polish company especially believe that the co-production of The Spies Of Warsaw has been very successful. At the bottom of the article is a video. David Tennant appears (with the Nieborow Palace behind him) at about 15 seconds.

James McAvoy: movies updates

Movie updates:

  • Filth resumed shooting on 13 Feb and there have been several set photos and observations shared online.

  • Welcome to the Punch is rumoured (via Twitter) to be screened at the Berlin Film Festival, according to someone on the James McAvoy Message Board

  • More about the X-Men:First Class sequel
MTV News recently caught up with the sequel's screenwriter Simon Kinberg at the première of his latest film, "This Means War," where we discussed his plans for Magneto, Xavier and the rest.
"I don’t know what the title is going to be but certainly I’m working on the sequel to 'X-Men: First Class' right now," Kinberg said. "I’m going to be writing and producing it, I’m starting now, with Matthew Vaughn directing."
When asked about what he enjoys most about incorporating so many characters into the story, Kinberg first emphasized his fanboy-ness, along with excitement to further explore the many layers of Magneto and Charles Xavier.
"I’m a huge X-Men fan. I grew up loving the comic books and it was really exciting to be able to do the origin story of Xavier and Magneto, and getting those two actors, [James] McAvoy and [Michael] Fassbender, were really amazing," he said. "So being able to explore those characters with actors of that quality will be exciting a second time around, and doing some things unexpected with those characters, which is the plan."
Kinberg went on to say that while they're still in the early stages of story-planning, the second film will likely involve a lot more Magneto.
"That’s what was so cool about the first one and what we want to continue," Kinberg said of exploring the supervillain's tortured beginnings. "Magneto becomes the villain ultimately of the franchise but he’s a much more complicated character as a young man. He’s someone you sympathize with, you care about you root for even though might not necessarily agree with his methods, you understand his philosophy."
So with the sequel will Magneto still be bridging the gap between good and bad or will he be a full-on villain?
"We’re still figuring that out. I think the truth is ultimately that because Michael is such an interesting actor, he’ll never be full-on anything. He’ll have a villainous side and he’ll have a sympathetic human side you’ll be able to relate but you’ll also be afraid of him. He becomes Magneto, he says 'Call me Magneto' at the end of the first movie."

James McAvoy - "Arthur Christmas" trailer | "Trance" location photos

ARTHUR CHRISTMAS Theatrical Trailer

ARTHUR CHRISTMAS stars the voices of James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Ashley Jensen, and is directed by Sarah Smith.

Synopsis: Set on Christmas night, the story of Arthur Christmas at last reveals the incredible, never-before seen answer to every child’s question: ‘So how does Santa deliver all those presents in one night?’ The answer: Santa’s exhilarating, ultra-high-tech operation hidden beneath the North Pole. But at the heart of the film is a story with the ingredients of a Christmas classic – a family in a state of comic dysfunction and an unlikely hero, Arthur, with an urgent mission that must be completed before Christmas morning dawns.

McAvoy leads the cast as Arthur, the good-natured but clumsy younger son of Santa. Arthur LOVES everything to do with Christmas; indeed, he is the only one in his family still captivated by the magic of the holiday. Laurie will play Arthur’s older brother Steve, heir to the reins, a cool, incredibly capable guy who has given the North Pole high-tech efficiency, military-style precision. Broadbent plays Santa, who pictures himself as the guy in charge at the North Pole, but is now more of a figurehead as the operation has outgrown him. Nighy plays Santa’s 136-year-old father, Grandsanta, a cranky old codger who hates the modern world, is always grumbling that Christmas ‘was better when I was Santa’ and has a tense relationship with Steve, who he calls ‘A postman with a spaceship.’ Jensen will play Bryony, a lowly elf from the Giftwrap Battalion, with an eager-to-please attitude and an obsession with wrapping and bows. Imelda Staunton rounds out the cast as Mrs. Santa, dedicated wife and mother to her husband and sons.

The movie will be released to theaters on November 23, 2011.
