James McAvoy's ‘The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby’ sells ahead of Toronto

The Beatles might be long gone, but Eleanor Rigby has been located in New York City.

A 40-day shoot for the Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy starrer “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby” wraps this week in the Big Apple in time for sales agent Myriad Pictures to present footage to buyers for the first time at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. As it stands, the double-sided project has already racked up a number of sales ahead of that showcase.

Two films have been made: “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His” and “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers,” focusing on one married couple, the first film told from the husband’s perspective and the second from the wife’s. Written and directed by Ned Benson, the films star James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain as the main couple.

Myriad has pre-sold the film to a number of different territories, including Wanda for Spain, Transmission for Australia, Swen in Latin America, Eagle in the Middle East, D Productions in Turkey, Aurora in the Ukraine, Five Stars in Israel, Koch in Italy and Lanterna in Portugal.

The cast includes Isabelle Huppert, William Hurt, Viola Davis, Bill Hader, Ciaran Hinds, Jess Wexler and Nina Arianda. Chastain produced the film alongside Cassandra Kulukundis.

Myriad's Kirk D’Amico serves as an executive producer.

IFC Films acquires rights to James McAvoy-led Welcome To The Punch

FC Films announced today the company is acquiring all U.S. rights to director Eran Creevy’s action thriller Welcome To The Punch from Worldview Entertainment. The film, which was also written by Creevy, stars James McAvoy, Mark Strong, and Andrea Riseborough. The project was produced by Rory Aitken and Ben Pugh of Between the Eyes and Brian Kavanaugh Jones of Automatik. Worldview’s Christopher Woodrow, Molly Conners, Maria Cestone and Sarah Johnson Redlich executive produced with Ridley Scott and Liza Marshall of Scott Free Productions, Xavier Marchand of Momentum Pictures, and Stuart Ford of IM Global.

In Welcome To the Punch, former criminal Jacob Sternwood (Strong) is forced to return to London from his Icelandic hideaway when his son is involved in a heist gone wrong. This gives detective Max Lewinsky (McAvoy) one last chance to catch the man he has always been after. As they face off, they start to uncover a deeper conspiracy they both need to solve in order to survive.

James McAvoy & Jessica Chastain begin filming ‘The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby’

James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain have already been spotted in New York City where they are preparing to begin filming The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby next week.

According to a press release, the movie will explore “how a married couple in New York City deals with an emotional, life-altering experience, from two different perspectives.”

The film is already getting a lot of buzz because it will be split into a double feature in which the perspective of the husband (McAvoy) is seen in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him and the story of the wife (Chastain) is told in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her.

According to a post on Yahoo from one of the film’s location scouts, it looks like a portion of the movie will be shot in Nassau County, NY in August too.

These must be in Nassau County. For feature film, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, eight days in August, they’re looking for a colonial farmhouse, country, medium – large size, not a mansion. Reasonable property size.

Another post on Twitter indicates the movie will film scenes on the Brooklyn Bridge next week.

James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain to star in 'Eleanor Rigby'

James McAvoy will star opposite Jessica Chastain in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.

The Scottish actor will play the restaurant owner husband of Jessica's character in the double feature which will follow the couple as they deal with ''an emotional, life-altering experience'' when the wife goes back to college.

The unique project will tell their story in two movies and from each of their perspectives and will be called The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers.

However, the double love story, which has been written and will be directed by Ned Benson, will be stand-alone movies.

Kirk D'Amico from Myriad Pictures - who will sell the movie at Cannes - said in a statement: ''I am thrilled that we can share the excitement of James joining the cast with our buyers in Cannes, who have been so enthusiastic about the project from the beginning. James is one of the finest actors working today and I look forward to seeing Ned's rich, complex characters come alive.

''The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby represents an alternate approach to content. New distribution models make it creatively possible for feature films to break out of the format of one 90-minute experience.

''We have to make both films work on their own, both for the buyers but also for the audiences. Together these films will describe a fully, more complete look at these characters and their lives.''

Casting director-turned-producer Cassandra Kulukundis will produce.
