Iain De Caestecker: 'Shell' blu-ray release

'Shell': Blu-ray release
Independent British distributors Verve Pictures will release on Blu-ray Scottish writer-director Scott Graham's first feature film Shell (2012), starring Chloe Pirrie, Tam Dean Burn, Morven Christie, and Iain De Caestecker. The release will be available for purchase online and in shops across the United Kingdom on July 8th.

Shell is a 17-year-old woman who lives and works at a petrol station in the desolate Scottish Highlands. Apart from the occasional customers who call by for fuel, and a few regulars who acknowledge and catch up with her, Shell's only company is her reserved and softly spoken father Pete (Joseph Mawle), to whom she is devoted. A young girl trying to find her place in the world, she is on the cusp of womanhood, struggling to re-imagine her role within her own family and life in general. Pete, meanwhile, is damaged goods. He still keenly feels the absence of his wife, who ran away when Shell was four, while his connection with his daughter is both difficult and disturbing.

An assured debut feature starring Joseph Mawle and newcomer Chloe Pirrie, Shell marks the arrival of Scottish writer-director Scott Graham as a distinctive new voice in British cinema.

Shell was nominated for three awards at the BFI London Film Festival, including the Best Newcomer award for lead Chloe Pirrie, who provides the film with its beating heart.

Iain de Caestecker's In Fear new poster for Sundance premiere

British horror In Fear, which stars SHIELD agent Iain de Caestecker, has released a very striking new poster ahead of its première at the Sundance Film Festival (via Bloody Disgusting).
The film also stars Beautiful Creatures‘ Alice Englert and Downton Abbey‘s Allen Leech and comes from first-time director Jeremy Lovering and Big Talk Productions (who produced Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, Paul and Sightseers). De Caestecker and Englert star as a couple who get lost on winding country roads on the way to a music festival and end up in the hands of a mysterious tormentor.
Iain de Caestecker also starred in cruelly short-lived drama The Fades, which you can buy on DVD for £5.50 on Amazon.co.uk

Ian de Caestecker: 'Young James Herriot' showing in Australia

'Young James Herriot' showing in Australia
Ian de Caestecker plays a young James Herriot.
Ian de Caestecker plays a young James Herriot.

In this first episode of Young James Herriot, the prequel to the much-loved series All Creatures Great and Small, we meet a young Herriot (Iain de Caestecker) on his first day at the dark and dingy Glasgow Veterinary College. Almost immediately James finds himself involved in high jinks and attending to a sick horse. We encounter all manner of other warm-blooded mammals as Herriot charts his way in this quirky, clever and charming show. It is set in 1930s Glasgow, which looks like a dastardly place to live, but James's new friends warm to him quickly and see to it that bitter-sweetness can be countenanced by good humour and good drink. The central female character, Whirly Tyson (Amy Manson), is a strong and forthright young woman forced to deal with issues some viewers may remember only too well - or still, unfortunately, have to put up with.

Airs on ABC1, 8.20pm (Australia)
