James McAvoy proves he's one of Hollywood's most promising actors

Well at least someone from saltystix.com agrees, even if the Academy acts like it doesn't. Find out where James placed on their list of the ten most promising young actors working today. Think James deserved to be higher, or dare I say, lower? What do you think?

  1. WOW - Being No. 2 to Ryan Gosling, that's excellent praise from an 'unbiased' source! (I think!)

They said, of James, "he more than held his own opposite Forest Whitaker in The Last King of Scotland. I personally thought he was better than Forest in that film (which is saying quite a lot), and really look forward to his future work."

    Um..... DITTO !

I agree with the top few picks, though would put Jake G. in there instead of Emile H., perhaps just because I've liked Jake's movies better.

I also think they left out a few 'underrated' guys - Hayden Christensen, John Franco & Justin Long, come to mind.

Meanwhile - "Way To Go" Mr. McAvoy!

PS - Two Questions: 1) How do you feel about Welshman, Ioan Gruffudd ?

    2) Have you seen 'Cassandra's Dream' ? Ewan & Colin are both FANTASTIC in that!

  2. It's wonderful that James is high up even though he hasn't done that many American films. It just shows how impressive his acting skills are.

They did leave a few great actors off the list and I totally agree about Hayden Christensen, he's a very underused actor - he was brilliant in Shattered Glass. I am glad that they put Paul Dano up there though, and I'm thrilled that he's finally getting noticed.

I would have also loved to see Charlie Hunam on the list, but maybe he's too obscure, he was almost unrecognizable in Children of Men. And funny enough, I would have loved to see Liam Aiken from Lemony Snickets. He's very young, but he's got a bright future ahead of him. I also wished they'de put Cillian Murphy on the list.

    To answer you questions:

I LOVE Ioan Gruffudd! I love it when he speaks Welsh. He makes it sound so sexy. I was contemplating also doing a blog on Welsh actors, but for now I can only handle one!

I have not yet seen Cassandra's Dream. I am so jealous that you have seen it, but it won't be coming out where I live so I have to wait for the DVD. I bet Ewan and Colin had good chemistry together as brothers.

  3. Goodness - you really know your actors! I had to look up 'Charlie Hunam' - I've not seen 'Children' but I have 'Hooligans' on DVD.

And - Liam Aiken - you are right, I think, he should get more movie roles.

Re: Ioan - YES! I've watched a couple of his 'Welsh TV' interviews on YouTube - Delightful! (No reason you can't 'piggy back' Welsh guys on this Blog... and the Irish too...

Re: Cassandra's Dream - Sorry to hear you'll have to wait. I was lucky, as I did not think our theater would show it. Ewan & Colin's characters are so 'against type' for both of them, that the acting is stunning.

    (Thanks for addressing my curiousity!)

  4. Don't mention it Octavia. Thank you so much for all your comments. Glad to see people out there who love movies and actors as much as I do! You're making me REALLY start to contemplate adding Irish and Welsh actors! But what would I call the blog I wonder? Hmmm...

  5. "Scottish Actors and Neighbors" ??

"Scottish Actors, and so on" ??

    :-)

No - No !! Only kidding! The Blog is great the way it is. If not for the simple and descriptive title, I may not have found it!

Besides, it IS your Blog, you can mention anyone you like!
