Ewan McGregor

‘The Impossible’ Exclusive Featurette: Video
One of the sleeper entries in this year’s Oscar race is the emotionally wrenching true story, The Impossible which chronicles a family split apart in the terrifying Tsunami in Thailand in 2004 and their efforts to survive and find each other, despite horrific injury and unspeakable devastation at the resort area where they were vacationing.
Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor and Tom Holland star in the film directed by Spain’s Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage).
Distributor Summit will release the film domestically (already a smash hit in Spain since opening there in mid-October) on December 21, but already has sent out 38,000 DVD screeners to all guilds and the Academy in order to gain a foothold in the race against higher profile, better known competitors. Here is a look at the making of the film in a featurette that also includes an interview with the real-life wife and mother who fights against major odds just to see her kids and husband one more time.

Kelly MacDonald: Anna Karenina featurette

New Featurette for Anna Karenina – ‘A Bold New Vision of the Epic Story of Love’

Joe Wright’s anticipated new adaptation of Anna Karenina sees him returning to work once more with the Oscar-nominated Keira Knightley (Atonement) for what promises to be one of the most bold and beautiful dramas of the year.

The first trailer for the film was so impressive when it landed last month, and now a wonderful new featurette has debuted online, in which Knightley tells us a little about their approach to the adaptation:

“The rules of a period film have been completely broken. Anna Karenina is a story that’s been done a lot. What is the point in doing a safe adaptation?”

A very good question. And one that suggests we’re in for something rather brilliant this autumn.

Starring alongside Knightley will be a fantastic cast, headed up by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jude Law, Matthew Macfadyen, Kelly Macdonald, Emily Watson, Domhnall Gleeson, Holliday Grainger, and Olivia Williams.

The movie will be released to theaters on November 7, 2012 (limited) according to FilmEquals

Brave’ is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest – and serving as comic relief – are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).

Brave fears Scots accents
Published on Saturday 9 June 2012 13:38
Makes of animated blockbuster Brave have hired actors to dub the film overseas because they fear the Scottish accents will be difficult to understand.

The Disney Pixar film, which will premiere in Edinburgh, is to be voiced by natives in countries such as Japan, Taiwan and France to avoid confusion.

That means Scottish cast members Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Robbie Coltrane, Craig Ferguson and Kevin McKidd will not be heard in non-English speaking countries.

Brave is set to provide a multi-million pound tourism boost for the country.

New Featurette and Images for Disney/Pixar’s Brave

Disney/Pixar have released a new character featurette for their upcoming animated adventure Brave. You can see it along with character poses and concept art, as well as new banners that were released by Disney/Pixar last week, on CinemaSpy (link below).

The featurette, subtitled Merida’s Brave Story, introduces us to the passionate and fiery titular character. Merida is described in the official biography as “a headstrong teenager of royal upbringing who is struggling to take control of her own destiny.” Merida will be voiced by Kelly Macdonald.

According to Disney/Pixar, “[Merida] feels most at home in the outdoors honing her impressive athletic skills as an archer and swordfighter, and racing across the magnificent Highland countryside with her faithful horse, Angus. With a spirit as vibrant as her untamed hair, Merida also has a softness of heart, especially when it comes to her wee triplet brothers. As the daughter of the King and Queen, her life is weighted with responsibilities and expectations, causing her to yearn to preserve her freedom and independence. When Merida blatantly defies an ancient tradition, the consequences of her actions prove disastrous for the kingdom. She must race against time to make right the result of her reckless behavior, her journey compelling her to look inside to discover the meaning of bravery and reveal her true fate.”

Brave follows the heroic journey of Merida, a skilled archer and headstrong daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric Witch (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her skills and resources – including her clever and mischievous triplet brothers – to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late, discovering the meaning of true bravery.

Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman have directed Brave, with Katherine Sarafian producing. Andrews served as story supervisor for the Disney/Pixar films Ratatouille and The Incredibles, and was Oscar-nominated as the co-writer/co-director of the Pixar short One Man Band. He also contributed to the screenplay as co-screenwriter and served as second unit director for John Carter. Chapman directed DreamWorks Animation’s The Prince of Egypt and was story supervisor for the Disney classic The Lion King. Sarafian produced the Oscar-nominated Pixar short film Lifted and served as production manager for The Incredibles.

Brave will be released on 22 June, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theatres.
