BBC One commissions second series of 'The Paradise'
Bill Gallagher’s BBC One hit The Paradise - currently airing on Tuesday nights - will return for a second series of eight episodes next year.
Made in-house by BBC Drama Productions, the period drama set in the impossibly glamorous world of the first ever department store has been attracting a strong loyal audience so far with an average consolidated audience of 5.9 million/22.5% share.
Danny Cohen, Controller of BBC One, says: “The Paradise has been the biggest new drama series on British television so far this Autumn, and it has been really interesting to experiment with period drama on BBC One beyond the traditional Sunday night slot. I’m delighted that the show will be returning for a second series, and can assure its loyal following that there are still some dramatic twists to come in the three episodes still to air this Autumn."
The popular series, adapted from the much-loved classic French novel by Emile Zola, follows smart, ambitious and big hearted Denise Lovett played by rising star Joanna Vanderham who arrives in the city to find work. The store provides the catalyst for her rags-to-riches story as she falls in love with the exhilarating and dangerous charms of the modern world and her eyes are opened to a whole new world of possibilities.
The series showcases fantastic performances from a wonderful cast that includes: Sarah Lancashire, Emun Elliott, David Hayman, Elaine Cassidy, Matthew McNulty and Patrick Malahide.
Bill Gallagher, writer and creator, said: “I'm very grateful that there's such a strong audience for The Paradise, and for the terrific support the BBC has given to the show to make that possible. It's such a great ensemble of actors and such a rich group of characters that it's an exciting prospect to have eight more episodes to make.”
With three more episodes still to go, the final episode of series one will air on the 13 of November on BBC One at 9pm. Viewers will learn whether Moray (Elliott) will marry Katherine (Cassidy) or follow his heart with Denise.
Written and created by Bill Gallagher and produced by BBC Drama Production. The executive producer for the BBC is Susan Hogg and the producer is Simon Lewis. The series was commissioned by Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning and Danny Cohen, Controller, BBC One.

Green Band trailer for Movie 43
We saw a red band trailer for Movie 43 earlier this month which contained profanity, boobs, and about 30 familiar faces ranging from Gerard Butler, Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, Emma Stone and Liev Schreiber.

Now Relativity Media have released a regular green band trailer which still contains some of the cleaner material, but there’s some extra stuff thrown in there too. Still no plot in sight, but I don’t think this is a movie that aimed for one in the first place.

Gerard Butler to star in Chetnik movie?
Blic reports that Scottish lawyer-turned-actor Gerard Butler could star in a movie recalling the sacrifice that Chetnik resistance fighters made in 1944 when they rescued hundreds of US airmen from the Nazis.

Serbian producer Marko Mišković is currently negotiating with Hollywood partners to produce the movie about this little-known event which, if produced, would surely cast new light on the tremendous contribution made by Chetnik fighters to the Allied cause. Villagers from Pranjani – where the airlift for Operation Halyard was staged – risked their own lives and shared what precious little they had to save the US airmen.

Gerard was critically acclaimed in Phantom of the Opera which was followed with leading roles in chick-flick PS I Love You and  Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla. He also starred alongside Ralph Fiennes in a movie production of Shakepeare’s Coriolanus which was filmed on location in Belgrade.  The actor is said to have loved his time in Belgrade and there are rumours of a romantic attachment he forme with Serbian actress Martina Rajić.

Shown on BBC Four on Thursday 26th January 2012, We’ll Take Manhattan focuses on an unpredictable and electric photoshoot for British Vogue in 1962 New York. It reveals how visionary photographer David Bailey (Aneurin Barnard - Ironclad) refused to conform and insisted on using an unconventional and unknown model for the June cover, Jean Shrimpton (Gillan).

Over the course of a freezing week in Manhattan, David Bailey realised he had found his muse - someone both he and his camera had fallen in love with. Billy Connolly’s Route 66 drives onto Blu-ray and DVD on the 10th October 2011 from Universal Pictures (UK) Ltd. Also available to buy and download from iTunes.

From the all-new ITV1 series, produced by Maverick Television, Billy Connolly’s Route 66 sees Billy turn Easy Rider as he follows a lifelong dream and makes the iconic 2488 mile journey from Chicago to Santa Monica.

Route 66

On his way, Billy meets disciples of Route 66, from seasoned “roadies” to first-timers living the dream.
