Edinburgh hotel names rooms after Scots celebs

A new city centre hotel has opened the doors to 30 bedrooms, but a host of Scots celebrities already have their names on them.
The Hope Street development, called Angels’ Share, has been painstakingly designed by one of Edinburgh’s leading pub tycoons, with individual rooms named after faces such as Sir Chris Hoy, Andy Murray, Kelly MacDonald, Gerard Butler and Ewan McGregor.
A New York-style speakeasy bar called the Devil’s Cut has also been installed in the basement of the former Hudson Hotel and Bar – accessed through a secret door which is only opened when drinkers whisper the
correct password.
Entrepreneur Billy Lowe, who also runs Le Monde in George Street, bought the site with his business partner Andy Pollard two years ago and has transformed it into a contemporary “cool and current” hotel and whisky bar.
He said: “I loved the idea of the Angels’ Share, the whisky that evaporates during distillation, and visited whisky bars all over the world to get a feel, but I also wanted to take the Scottish feel throughout the whole hotel. I didn’t want tartan and heather or kitsch and twee, but cool and
current.
“We also had the idea of naming rooms and theming them after Scots who were also cool and current. It’s similar to what we did at Le Monde with the worldwide cities, so we have rooms named after a number of different celebrities, local and national.”

Gerard Butler: new trailer for "Olympus Has Fallen"

He's The Only Hope You've Got

A new trailer has arrived for Training Day director Antoine Fuqua's Olympus Has Fallen. Terrorists have infiltrated The White House, the President is a hostage, and there's nobody left to save the leader of the free world.
Except one man.
Gerard Butler is the ex-special forces trapped inside the West wing who will pick off terrorists like fruit from a tree.
Olympus Has Fallen arrives in cinemas five months before Roland Emmerich's similarly themed White House Down. Which terrorist will be most terrifying? Which President will be most presidential? Which special forces guy hates terrorists the most? Well, Gerard Butler and co have set the action bar pretty high judging by the trailer below...

Hamming it up for the London audience, Gerard Butler attended the Gala screening of "Playing for Keeps" at Apollo Piccadilly Circus on Thursday (December 13).

The "300" star looked handsome in a black suit with a dark gray dress shirt and burgundy tie while he drummed up some playful poses for the photographers.

Earlier this week, the 43-year-old actor joined Sarah Jessica Parker to co-host the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway.

Speaking about the gig and the big winner, Gerard stated, "I’m deeply honored to have been asked to be a part of such a remarkable celebration of humanity. The European Union has shown the world what is possible when forces unite in peace. It’s a joy to stand alongside these magnificent artists and celebrate the EU and its contribution to world peace.”

Gerard Butler shows his softer side

He's best known as Hollywood hardest working lothario.
But Gerard Butler showed off his softer side as he spent time with ill, young friend Abella Wyss at a charity screening for his new film Playing for Keeps on Wednesday.
The Scottish heartthrob made the poorly young girl's night as he gave her a hug ahead of the Soccer of Hope special screening in aid of the Los Angeles Children's Hospital at the ArcLight Hollywood.

Abella, who suffers from a rare genetic blood disorder, has struck up a bond with the 300 star who scooped her up in his arms at the screening.

The daughter of Gerard's friend Oliver Wyss has spent a lot of time with the A-lister over the last few months as he has been championing the young girl's charity.
The single star surprised onlookers by showing his caring nature, proving that there's a lot more to the actor than hit films and a string of conquests.

Gerard Butler to star in 'Dynamo'
Gerard Butler is to star in a new soccer movie.

The 300 actor - an avid Celtic fan - has signed up to appear in Dynamo, a true-life tale which chronicles an historic game between an occupied Ukrainian team and their Nazi captors during World War II.

The game - which was dubbed The Death Match - saw the Nazis pit a squad of well-treated German players against a starving group of Ukrainians with the expectation of an easy win. However, their opponents, spurred on by goalkeeper Nikolai Trusevich - who Gerard will play - fought back and ultimately inspired their entire city.

The film is based on Andy Dougan's book 'Dynamo: Defending The Honour Of Kiev' and has a script by Eli Richbourg. The project does not yet have a director in place, but Riviera Pictures, Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo., and Jeremy Garelick will produce. Pathé co-developed and will co-produce and distribute the film worldwide.

'Dynamo' will shoot in Europe some time next year.

Green Band trailer for Movie 43
We saw a red band trailer for Movie 43 earlier this month which contained profanity, boobs, and about 30 familiar faces ranging from Gerard Butler, Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, Emma Stone and Liev Schreiber.

Now Relativity Media have released a regular green band trailer which still contains some of the cleaner material, but there’s some extra stuff thrown in there too. Still no plot in sight, but I don’t think this is a movie that aimed for one in the first place.

Gerard Butler to star in Chetnik movie?
Blic reports that Scottish lawyer-turned-actor Gerard Butler could star in a movie recalling the sacrifice that Chetnik resistance fighters made in 1944 when they rescued hundreds of US airmen from the Nazis.

Serbian producer Marko MiÅ¡ković is currently negotiating with Hollywood partners to produce the movie about this little-known event which, if produced, would surely cast new light on the tremendous contribution made by Chetnik fighters to the Allied cause. Villagers from Pranjani – where the airlift for Operation Halyard was staged – risked their own lives and shared what precious little they had to save the US airmen.

Gerard was critically acclaimed in Phantom of the Opera which was followed with leading roles in chick-flick PS I Love You and  Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla. He also starred alongside Ralph Fiennes in a movie production of Shakepeare’s Coriolanus which was filmed on location in Belgrade.  The actor is said to have loved his time in Belgrade and there are rumours of a romantic attachment he forme with Serbian actress Martina Rajić.

Gerard Butler: first look at 'Movie 43' and Big Brothers, Big Sisters appeal

  • First look at 'Movie 43'
Movie 43 is a prime example why it is good to have red-band, NSFW trailers. Had this just been a green-band trailer the comedy wouldn’t look nearly as funny (or off-the-wall). An anthology flick in the tradition of The Kentucky Fried Movie and with a cast that looks to rival It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, the comedy looks completely nuts.

Hopefully, this is a good thing, as looks can be deceiving. Heaven help us if this is something like the craptastic spoofs (if you can call them that) of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer of Date Movie and Epic Movie infamy.

Sporting celebrities from Johnny Knoxville to Kate Winslet, this raunchy comedy took four years to make. When I first heard of the production I was intrigued because of the talent assembled, wondering why celebrities like Hugh Jackman and Naomi Watts would be involved with such a project. But then I remembered: sometimes actors like to take a break and do something off the beaten path and act stupidly for a change.

This red-band trailer below will either make you laugh or cringe at the comic exploits. But even if you can’t make heads or tails of the vignettes, you should at least crack a smile. I mean who could resist Naomi Watts telling her home-schooled son, “You dropped your books, f–kface” as she passes him on the stairs?

Soccer Aid update (Gerard Butler, James McAvoy)

Soccer Aid helped raise £4.9 million for children's charity UNICEF

The fourth bi-annual charity football match - created by Robbie Williams and Jonathan Wilkes - broke records by raising its highest amount so far, with the UK government matching all public donations pound for pound.

James McAvoy, Gerard Butler, Edward Norton, Olly Murs and Gordon Ramsay were among the celebrities taking part in this year's event, which took place at Old Trafford on May 27.

Robbie Williams, UNICEF UK Ambassador, said: "I'm still basking in the glory of England's win and so pleased that this has been the best Soccer Aid yet with almost £5 million raised for UNICEF – for children.

"Thank you so so much to everyone who donated on the night or bought a ticket to the match - we couldn't have done it without you."

Gerard Butler drama ‘Motor City’ stalls before reaching start line: crew sent home

The plug was pulled yesterday morning (1 Sept) on Motor City, the revenge drama that was scheduled to start production late this month with Albert Hughes directing and Gerard Butler, Mickey Rourke and Adrien Brody starring.

The film was in pre-production, and the crew was just told to go home. It is an abrupt and chaotic development. Insiders tell me that Motor City stalled after the film’s backers, Emmett/Furla Films, Envision Entertainment, and Mark Damon’s Foresight Entertainment, realized at the last moment that the release date given them by Warner Bros through its deal with Joel Silver’s Dark Castle turned out to be a drop dead date.

Production was to start September 17th, meaning the film could only have 12 weeks of post production. It wasn’t enough time. They needed that studio release to justify all of the foreign distribution deals made for the film by Damon. As a result, they could not secure a bond and couldn’t move forward.

Gerard Butler: musical makeover, 300 sequel news, Chasing Mavericks trailer

Gerard Butler plans musical makeover

Thr 300 star is trying to relaunch himself as a singer, and has sought advice from the likes of Manson and Tenacious D's Jack Black.

Hollywood hardman Gerard Butler is being advised by Marilyn Manson as he plans to turn himself into a rock star, US reports have claimed.

The Paisley pin-up is said to be writing songs and making an album.

And according to the National Enquirer, pal Johnny Depp has introduced him to music industry veterans including Goth idol Manson and Tenacious D star Jack Black.

The magazine quoted a Hollywood insider as saying: “Gerry is rocking out big time and is already writing songs and cutting an album.

“He’s been a closet singer for years and has decided the time is right to try doing it professionally.

“In fact, he’s in the process of making what he hopes will be a best-selling CD.”

Gerry sang in a movie version of Phantom of the Opera and jammed with US rocker John Mayer in 2010 as he celebrated his 41st birthday at New York’s Darby Club.

And the Enquirer says he returned to the Darby’s stage in April this year, getting a rousing reception as he belted out tunes by The Rolling Stones, The Doors and Oasis.

Gerry is said to have sharpened his focus on music after a stint in rehab this year.

He checked into the Betty Ford Centre after reportedly having problems with prescription drugs. Reports claimed he suffered pain after his gruelling physical training for 2006 movie 300, and a surfing accident while filming Of Men and Mavericks last December.

A spokesman for the star said in February: “Gerard has completed a successful course of treatment and has returned home in good health.”

The Enquirer’s source said: “Gerry started channelling all his energy into music and it’s turned out to be a great outlet.

“He even turned to Johnny Depp for advice on putting a first-rate band together.

“Johnny and Gerry have jammed together, and Johnny introduced Gerry to some of his musician friends, including Marilyn Manson and Jack Black.”

Celtic-mad Gerry plays a former professional footballer in his new movie, comedy drama Playing for Keeps.
