James McAvoy's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! canceled + a new 'Last Station' poster

James McAvoy has been replaced with another guest for his previously scheduled Friday, January 8 appearance. It looks like the snow has been delaying flights at Gatwick Airport for the past few days. I'll keep you posted if the appearance is rescheduled or if any of James' other appearances are canceled.

Now for a some good news. An exclusive UK poster for The Last Station has hit the web. The Last Station opens on February 19 in the UK.

Today the British Academy Film Awards unveiled its 2010 Long List: "The result of Round One voting by members of the Academy which had 220 films entered this year, the first round of voting reduces the films down to 15 in each category. Round Two voting, which opens today, will reduce these down to 5 nominations in each category. Over 6000 members of the Academy vote in the three rounds, with final awards given out at the Royal Opera House on February 21st:"

Both Helen Mirren and Christopher Plummer are on the Long List in the lead and supporting categories for their roles in The Last Station.

Robert Carlyle and Peter Capaldi win Scottish Baftas

Robert Carlyle won the Bafta Scotland award for best TV actor for The Unloved and Peter Capaldi won for the award for best actor for In the Loop. Peter Capaldi couldn't make it to the ceremony because according to In the Loop director Armando Iannucci - who picked up the award on his behalf - he was "flogging the film in LA because it's the start of the award season there. He was gutted to find out it had clashed with this." Robert Carlyle talked about what it meant to win:
"It's lovely, it's a fantastic thing, I was saying earlier on to people, I mean, ten years ago, to be honest with you, you wouldn't have thought too much of this, it was always nice to get a wee-kind of nod - but the quality of the nominations now is just getting higher and higher."

"The acting awards this year and last year - there's so many top quality Scots male actors at the moment that to be included amongst any kind of list of nominees you've got to be happy with that. You've got to be pleased with that. So, it's really come up, I think." [Yahoo! News UK]

Ewan McGregor to present at the BAFTAs + a new interview

Ewan will appear at this year's ceremony:
The annual and classy BAFTA Awards announced some of the presenters for this year’s upcoming gala. Scheduled to appear are a mix of Yankees and Brits including Amy Adams, Bencicio Del Toro, Minnie Driver, Ewan McGregor and "Slumdog Millionaire" star Dev Patel. [HitFix]

There's also an interview with Ewan from last Sunday's LA Times. In the interview he talked about his upcoming films - The Ghost, The Men Who Stare at Goats, I Love You, Phillip Morris, and Amelia. Here's an excerpt from the interview:
You play Earhart's lover-on-the-side in "Amelia," but the part itself is fairly straightforward. What was the draw?

Hilary Swank, who plays Amelia, has been a good friend of mine for years, and we've always talked about working together. I suppose we kind of kept our eyes open for something. She called me about "Amelia" just as I arrived to start shooting "I Love You, Phillip Morris," and we struggled for quite some time, but I really wanted to make it work dates-wise. So I literally made the two films at the same time, flying back and forth from Toronto.

Have you been following the news coverage of what's been happening to him [Roman Polanski]?

No, I try not to. I was pretty upset. I don't like to think of him sitting in a prison cell. But I wouldn't comment upon it because it's a very complicated issue, you know? It seems odd. He's been living in Switzerland for years and I've visited him there, so this is all very strange.

Is there anyone you really want to work with?

Yeah, I've never worked with Johnny Depp, and I'd really love to. Kate Winslet. Rebecca Hall. Directors, I don't know. I'm odd with directors because I don't have a kind of wish list. Daniel Day-Lewis? I don't know. I think I'd like to work with him.

Do you think America is ready for "I Love You, Phillip Morris," which is based on the true story of a man who falls in love while in prison and then stages multiple successful escapes to be with his lover after his release?

It seemed to go down very well there at Sundance. It's a love story, an escape movie and a comedy, all about this man who goes to incredible lengths to be with the man he loves. I like it because it's a gay film, which is to say it's a film about two men in love, and I think that's an important element of it. But it's not a film about them being gay. They just happen to be gay. I also got to French kiss Jim Carrey a lot, and I quite like that too.

Can James McAvoy win his third BAFTA in a row?

Here's hoping. Luckily it has been confirmed that James McAvoy will be going to the ceremony. The 2008 The British Academy Film Awards ceremony is this Sunday, and if you live in the US, BBC America will air the BAFTAS Sun., Feb. 10th, at 8 pm et/7:30 pm pt, followed by two back-to-back encores. If you live in the US and don't want to know who wins before the show you'll probably want to avoid news or the internet for most of the day. I certainly don't want to know before I can watch the show, so I will not be posting about the winners (or losers) until after the 8 pm show is over.

James McAvoy gives his first US interview right after his BAFTA nomination

What a week for James McAvoy and the makers of Atonement. The film may have been shut out of the major guild nominations (I'm looking at you SAG, WGA, DGA, and PGA), but after a Golden Globe win for best dramatic picture and a whopping 14 BAFTA nominations, the film is officially back in the Oscar race, where it belongs. James McAvoy is nominated in the best actor category for his role as Robbie Turner, and you can go here for a full list of all the nominees.

Will there be stars at the BAFTAS when the winners are announced Feb. 10? Probably, according to Hollywood Today, because there's no writer's strike to affect the British award show; but with the Oscars to follow two weeks later, many actors may not want to ignore the issues behind the writer's strike in the U.S. Nevertheless US viewers can catch the show on BBC America in February.

Here's an interview James McAvoy had today on Ryan Seacrest's radio show on 102.7 KIIS-FM. In it, James talks about his BAFTA nomination, Oscar buzz, and why he totally deserves even more love and adulation from his fans. Totally.
