Gerard Butler to start shooting 'Playing the Field' in March

Playing the Field
(originally called Slide) is now scheduled to begin production sometime in March. Gerard Butler started out as just producing the film through Evil Twins, but was cast in the lead role a few months ago.
When it was called Slide, the story centered on a ex-professional baseball player who tries to reconnect with his son and ex-wife by coaching the boy's little league team. Now that it's Playing the Field, the action has moved from the baseball field to the soccer field, with Butler attached to play a retired soccer star. Both editions of the story had the ex-player having to fight off the mothers of other kids on his son's team. [Rebecca Murray]

'Grey's Anatomy' gets a return date

The seventh season of Grey's Anatomy has reportedly been scheduled to start on Thursday, September 23 on ABC. Instead of the typical two hour season premiere the seventh season will be one hour instead.

As such, some of the questions going into September 23 are:

* How have Meredith and Derek bounced back from her miscarrying the little life that was inside of her for so sadly short a time?

* Where do things stand between Cristina and Owen? Yang entered the Season 6 finale not knowing where her man stood, only to see him pronounce her “the woman I love” during a harrowing moment. Has Hunt been backing up his words with actions? Is Teddy once and for all surgically excised from the mix?

* Lexie, poor Lexie: Has she given Alex the hook, seeing as his thoughts were all about Izzie as his life hung in the balance in the finale? Do she and Mark – who impetuously popped the question the week before the gunman crisis – have any chance at a second chance?

* Will Izzie return to Seattle, only to reveal that she is now married to Dr. Preston Burke?

* Is Arizona truly at peace with the notion of her and Callie mothering “10 babies on a beach in Spain”?

* Where stands Bailey’s nascent romance with gasman Ben – if only since Jason George is now shooting the Shonda Rhimes-produced midseason series, ‘Off The Map’?

* Was Webber empowered by his bit of bravado, where he stared down the shooter? Did that defining moment solidify his seat “on the wagon”?

* Now that Jesse Williams and Sarah Drew have been promoted to series regulars, how will Jackson and April fit into the SGH tapestry? Are their respective crushes (Cristina, Derek) behind them… or might there be unfinished business? [Matt Webb Mitovich]

David Tennant begins shooting 'The Decoy Bride'

David Tennant has started shooting the romantic comedy on location in the Isle of Man, and shooting will move to Scotland. Production reportedly started on Saturday and is expected to go on for five weeks. Michael Urie has also joined the cast of The Decoy Bride, and you can follow his Tweets for updates on the shoot. The Ex-Isle Film Agency is also looking for film extras and you can get more information about casting here. A film synopsis is below:

The former Doctor Who stars alongside fellow Scot Kelly MacDonald and Alice Eve, who played Charlotte's nanny in Sex And The City 2.

David plays British writer James, who is engaged to internationally famous film star Lara (Alice), who decide to get married on a remote Scottish island when their wedding is sabotaged by a paparazzo.

Lara's manager Steve - played by Ugly Betty star Michael Urie - has less than 24 hours to transform the ancient, dilapidated island into the fairytale setting for a wedding and persuade local girl Katie (Kelly) to stand in as a decoy bride when the paparazzo tracks them down.

But when James meets Katie sparks fly and even more starts to go wrong.

The comedy was written by Neil Jaworski and Smack The Pony's Sally Phillips, who also takes a supporting role.

It is directed by Ugly Betty's Sheree Folkson, who previously directed David in TV comedy drama Casanova. [Press Association]

In other news, David Tennant has been cast in Decoy Bride alongside Alice Eve and Kelly MacDonald. The project was announced at the Cannes Film Festival last Friday and is set to start shooting for 5 weeks this June. It will shoot on the Isle of Man and in Scotland.
The Decoy Bride tells the story of a superstar actress, Lara (Eve), who just wants to marry her cute British boyfriend James (Tennant), and believes the sleepy Scottish Island of Hegg is the one place the world’s press won’t find them. But when an ingenious paparazzo tracks them down, the diva must find a decoy bride and thinks local girl Katie (MacDonald) will be an ideal replacement. But when Katie meets James, sparks fly. [ScreenDaily]

'Spartacus: Blood and Sand' to return as prequel series

Spartacus, starring John Hannah is set to return to Starz in January as a prequel. John Hannah's co-star Andy Whitfield has been getting treatment for non-Hodgkins lymphoma and will be in 2 out of 6 episodes. Shooting is expected to resume this summer in New Zealand:
The prequel series will focus on the rise of the House of Batiatus, the gladiator academy, and will revolve around the relationship between [Lucy] Lawless' and Hannah's characters, Lucretia and Batiatus.

...When Whitfield is able to get back to work on a more regular basis, the "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" story will continue where it left off. In the meantime, Starz is casting a new character, who preceded Spartacus and Crixus as the top gladiator at the House of Batiatus.

Aside from Hannah, Lawless, and Whitfield, fans can expect to see more familiar faces among the prequel's cast members. [Zap2it]

Kevin McKidd cast in 'The Great Ghost Rescue'

Kevin McKidd, Jason Isaacs, Toby Hall, and Emma Fielding will appear in the movie adaptation of Eva Ibbotson's 1975 children's novel. Kevin has been cast as Hamish. Shooting started today and the movie is set for a 2011 release in the UK. A synopsis of the book:

Humphrey the Horrible is a pleasant, friendly ghost - quite unlike his frightful, ghastly and loathsome family: his mother, a Hag; his father, a Scottish ghost killed fighting in the Battle of Otterburn in which he lost both his legs, and was run through by a sword; his brother George, a Screaming Skull; and his sister, Winifred, a wailing ghost covered in bloodstains.

The little family are turned out of their castle home when humans plan to redevelop the castle into a holiday resort. [Wiki]

Summit picks up 'The Impossible' with Ewan McGregor, Ewan at the White House Correspondents' Dinner

Summit Entertainment has picked up the worldwide rights to Juan Antonio Bayona's The Impossible, which is set to star Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts. Shooting is scheduled to begin in the summer, most likely in August.
Bayona reteams with the writer of that film, Sergio G. Sanchez, for a drama based around a true story set during and after the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004. The budget's set around $45 million, and, while exact plot details are under wraps, we found a Spanish article that states that "The aim of Bayona... is to recreate this natural disaster through a script with hints of horror and mystery and large doses of science fiction." [The Playlist Nation]

Ewan McGregor and his wife Eve Mavrakis appeared at the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington on Saturday. An after party interview with Ewan is below. His brief interview starts at 0:30.

More 'Coriolanus' set photos with Gerard Butler + 'Machine Gun Preacher' update

Just Jared shares some photos from yesterday (April 28) of Gerard Butler on the Belgrade set of Coriolanus.

Gerard also did an interview a few weeks ago (via ONTD!) and briefly discussed Coriolanus.

According to Production Weekly Machine Gun Preacher will go into production in Pennsylvania this June.
“Butler plays real-life hero Sam Childers — the one man fearless enough to fight a ruthless army outnumbering him 1,000 to 1. The fierce edge that once led Childers to a life of crime now fuels his daring crusade into Africa’s most dangerous battle zones to rescue children from the clutches of rebel warlords. His mission is clear: protect the children, no matter the cost.” [Orlando Sentinal]

Back in February Dougray Scott had reportedly been cast in Irvine Welsh's first feature film The Magnificent Eleven, an adaptation of The Magnificent Seven. Welsh now reveals that the film might be filmed this summer:
“We’re hoping to shoot in the summer and are fairly positive about it,” said Welsh, who is currently fine-tuning the screenplay while also writing his latest novel. “I’m pretty much tied up with the book and can’t make it out to Cannes, where we are planning to officially announce the film.” [Herald Scotland]

There also appears to be a new teaser poster featuring Sean Bean, with Dougray Scott getting third billing.
