Tommy Flanagan: new film project?

From We Got This Covered:
Charlie Hunnam Making Directorial Debut With Tommy Flanagan
The past few years have brought a lot success to English actor Charlie Hunnam, who stars in the hit FX series Sons Of Anarchy, which just wrapped its fifth and most successful season on Tuesday night. On top of the hit series, Hunnam has a new film in theatres titled Deadfall, where he stars alongside Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde. Oh, and he also has a major blockbuster coming up as he’ll be starring in Pacific Rim, which will arrive in 2013.
As if that wasn’t enough for the rising star, Collider has revealed that Hunnam will make his directorial debut shortly with a screenplay he wrote and that the film will star his Sons Of Anarchy co-star Tommy Flanagan.
“I’m going to write is this film that I have for Tommy Flanagan that I want to direct for him to star in. We want to go and make that for a million bucks in Britain. Tommy is just amazing. I just think he’s phenomenal. Some of the work he did this season (on Sons of Anarchy) was just breathtaking.”

Tommy Flanagan: 'Sons of Anarchy' season 5 promos

New promos and a behind-the-scenes look at FX's Sons of Anarchy season 5
Kurt Sutter's brilliant FX series Sons of Anarchy is set to return in a few weeks and today we have a round up of promos and a behind-the-scenes look at the fifth season.  The outlaw motorcycle club action/drama series follows a Hamlet-esque tale about family, murder, betrayal, and revenge, which often leads to tragedy, making for one of the most anxious and engrossing shows on cable.  Creator and showrunner Kurt Sutter has steered the ship for the series with passion and heart, creating a cast of characters that can be equally loved and despised at the same time.

The show stars Charlie Hunnam (PACIFIC RIM), Ron Perlman, Katie Segal, Maggie Siff, Kim Coates, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Ryan Hurst, Theo Rossi, and Dayton Callie, with season 5 guest stars Danny Trejo, Harold Perrineau (LOST), Jimmy Smits, Ashley Tisdale, and Joel McHale.

Tommy Flanagan - the most well-known extra in Hollywood

The man known as Tommy Flanagan is mainly a supporting actor, but more often than not, has barely uttered a word in the movies he appeared in. He has had an incredible career but many people just don’t know it. He has popped up in great movies since the early 90’s and has been in scenes with Mel Gibson, Val Kilmer, John Travolta, fellow Scots Robert Carlyle and Gerard Butler, Ice Cube, Colin Firth, Nicholas Cage, Russell Crowe, Michael Douglas and Clive Owen.

This may seem redundant seeing as he now has a major role in Sons of Anarchy as Chibs Telford, but Tommy has a history of popping up in great, big production movies.

Tommy was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. After a DJ gig one night and with a stroll home, Tommy was attacked and his face was cut at either side of his mouth then he was left alone to bleed. This was an uncalled for crime but Tommy never let it get the better of him.
He started his career in small bit parts, or even as one the most distinctive extras due to his noticeable scarring. He wasn’t taken seriously because of this and his skills were set aside in favour of playing the hired goon so to speak. Tommy landed the special role of Morrison in Mel Gibson’s Braveheart, starring alongside the man himself. Tommy had a couple of lines, but nothing much.

'Sons of Anarchy' to premiere tomorrow on FX

Season 3 of FX's Sons of Anarchy (which stars Scottish actor, Tommy Flanagan) will premiere tomorrow (September 7) at 10PM ET. Both season 1 and season 2 are out on DVD and if you want a huge refresher course on the last two seasons TV Squad has an extensive profile on the series. TV Squad has a brief description on Tommy Flanagan's character:
Chibs (Tommy Flanagan), a Scottish member of SAMCRO, who's also a mechanic and an emergency medic, and the club's connection to the IRA. He's nicknamed Chibs because of his facial scars ("chib" is the Scots word for knife), which Flanagan suffered in a real-life mugging [Kim Potts]

Special thanks to Sallee Smith for the reminder. I would have neglected to post this if it hadn't been for the heads up.

The 500 greatest movies of all time

Empire magazine brings us the 500 greatest movies of all time. Personally I think some of the choices are just either bad or very strange (Gremlins anyone?), some of Bogarts best films are not on, though thankfully the great Paul Newman's films show up quite a lot. Anyway here are the movies with Scottish actors they included:

449. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace - Ewan McGregor

442. Atonement - James McAvoy

432. X-Men 2 - Alan Cumming

376. Zodiac - Brian Cox

337. 300 - Gerard Butler

330. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - Ewan McGregor
320. Braveheart - Tommy Flanagan
211. Moulin Rouge! - Ewan McGregor
186. United 93 - Khalid Abdalla
151. Gladiator - Tommy Flanagan

130. The Man Who Would be King - Sean Connery

54. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - Billy Boyd

34. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - Billy Boyd

24. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - Billy Boyd

Tommy Flanagan on TV in September

Tommy will be starring in Sons of Anarchy, a new show that starts on Sept. 3, 2008 at 10pm on FX in the US. Admittedly I only know about this because of my Charlie Hunnam fixation, but it isn't even listed on his imdb page yet, though I did find the information on the show's MySpace page. Just thought I'd share.

Happy birthday Tommy Flanagan

Tommy Flanagan is a Scottish character actor who was born on July 3, 1965 in Glasgow, Scotland. He is best known for his work in Gladiator, Braveheart, and Smokin' Aces. Tommy is actually one of my favorite Scottish actors, and for some reason I have just never posted anything on him, so to make up for it, I hope he has a great day today.
