Craig Ferguson, Ellen DeGeneres, and Jay Leno are among the talk show hosts who have decided to support hard-hit local food banks. Craig Ferguson is asking members of his audience to donate canned food to help re-stock the L.A. Food Bank and other charities across America that are being hit by the recession. The L.A. Food Bank now has a 41% increase in demand for food. The goal of the new Yes We Can campaign is to get 12,000 cans a week until April of this year.
Ferguson joked, "I was ecstatic, as we often encourage audience members to leave all heavy, metal objects outside the stage." In the tradition of lounge comedy, he added, "audience members are still free to bring fresh food in to express their distaste for the comedy."
Craig will also appear in public service announcements that ask audiences who don't live in L.A. to donate food to local food banks with the Feeding America charity.

Ewan McGregor is on Twitter?
Photo from Basenotes
Someone on imdb points us to what looks like Ewan McGregor's Twitter page. I am totally clueless about Twitter so I can't tell how long the account has been open, or even how it works to be honest. It looks like it's his real Twitter account though. I'm one of the few remaining people on earth who has no idea how to use Twitter. Do any of you guys use it?

Overture Films just announced the release date for Law Abiding Citizen's wide release date in the US. The film, starring Gerard Butler will open March 26, 2010. Here's a synopsis of the film:LAW ABIDING CITIZEN is a thriller about a brilliant sociopath (Gerard Butler) who orchestrates a series of high-profile murders that grip the City of Philadelphia—all from inside his jail cell—and the prosecutor assigned to his case (Jamie Foxx) who realizes he is the only one who can end the reign of terror.Source

Ewan McGregor's 2010 Oscar chances
Is it ever too early to start speculating? Cinemablend and Rope of Silicon don't seem to think so and have three of Ewan's movies on their lists of 2010 contenders: Amelia, The Men Who Stare at Goats, and The Ghost. Cinemablend thinks Amelia has great chances:

The Ghost and The Men Who Stare at Goats are on Rope of Silicon's list of 20 upcoming films. I'm going to refrain from making my own predictions. The moment a movie is written on my own Oscar list I've literally given it the kiss of death.
Amelia, Dir. Mira Nair
October 23
Who's in it: Hilary Swank, Richard Gere, Ewan McGregor, Virgina Madsen
What's it about: Biopic about the famed aviator Earhart.
What are its chances: Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank + period setting + famous real-life character + revered international director = Oscar bait to the max.

I'm back (again)
Hi everyone. I am so sorry that I've been gone for two whole weeks. I had to send my laptop to be serviced and I was promised that it would only take a day to fix. Then I was promised it would take three days. Then I was promised a week. Needless to say, promises were not kept.
Anyway, my lovely new computer has been returned and I can start posting again! I'll start posting on Sunday. The Oscars are on Sunday and since the Academy is being really secretive about the presenters let's hope that maybe Gerard Butler will get to be a presenter. Thanks for being patient you guys.
Update: Oscar presenters have been requested to not walk on the red carpet before the award ceremony. I think they're hoping that if you don't see what your favorite star is wearing, you will watch the show to see what they are wearing during the show. So if Gerard or anyone else is presenting we won't see them until they appear on stage. The Academy is acting very strangely this year...

Ewan McGregor and the Electric Slide
Weirdest title ever. Ewan McGregor and Sundance sensation Carey Mulligan are in talks to star in the movie The Electric Slide. Based on a true story, the movie centers around the life of furniture salesman Eddie Dodson, a man who became a notorious bank robber. Dodson owned a furniture boutique in Hollywood during the 1980s and tried robbing a bank to impress his new girlfriend. Dodson robbed over 70 banks in Los Angeles. before he was arrested by the FBI. Ewan might play Dodson with Carey Mulligan playing his love interest in the movie. Indie production and finance banner Myriad Pictures is putting the financing together for the project and is preselling to buyers in Berlin.
It sounds like an interesting story actually. How on earth did a guy get away with robbing that many banks?

More Grey's Anatomy spoilers to hold you over
Today is a bit of a slow news day, but since Grey's Anatomy is back with new episodes this Thursday in the US I decided to leave you with some spoilers by Glenn Paul Diaz:
Source
Meanwhile, some of my fears are starting to come true...There will be “lots of cheesy, slow-mo, piano-scored interludes” between Cristina (Sandra Oh ) and Owen (Kevin McKidd ), complicated by the fact that a woman from Owen's past will come a-knocking.
