Ewan McGregor's dilemma

According to the Sunday Mail, Ewan McGregor is at the centre of a tug of war between two rival Scots films. Oscar winning writer/director Peter Capaldi wants to cast the actor in the upcoming comedy The Young Pretender, while producers of the period drama Mary Queen of Scots want to cast him opposite Scarlett Johansson, as the Earl of Bothwell, the third and final husband of the Scottish queen. Ewan however, has previously stated he would star in The Young Pretender. Here's a summary of the comedy from imdb (which actually credits the film as The Great Pretender) :

In 1938, two producers hire Hollywood star Leslie Grangely (McGregor) to play Bonnie Prince Charlie (also McGregor) in a movie about the 18th century Jacobite Rebellion in Scotland. Soon afterward, a drunk Grangely disappears and the producers are forced to find a replacement. They trick a lookalike extra into playing the role of Bonnie Prince Charlie, "The Great Pretender."

Both films are to be shot this summer. You can vote in the poll for which film you'd rather see Ewan cast in.

New international Wanted trailers

Here are two brand new Wanted trailers from Trailer Addict . They're voiced over in Russian, but even if you don't speak Russian the trailers show lots of new scenes that haven't been shown anywhere in the US or the UK. The second trailer is a little violent, but it's cool to finally see what James McAvoy can do in an action movie. You can watch the trailers below:

Here's a translation of the two trailers I found on one of the imdb message boards - I hope it's accurate!

FIRST
Don't you know, in this world not everyone is lucky enough to find their destiny.. their hero.. that is why you have to create him yourself. Create him with your hands.. your lips.. your heart. Fight for him against the whole world, and even fight *him*. Destiny loves those who try to defy it. If a woman becomes a weapon of fate - that fate is.. beautiful.
Do you hear that? Destiny called your name.

SECOND
What is it that's beating madly in your chest? Maybe it isn't your heart, but something that you're so afraid to tell yourself.. afraid to admit that she's been cheating on you with your best friend...But not everyone is destined to die on their job - there exists a different fate. For the sake of freedom, you're allowed to defy the laws of physics. For the sake of freedom, you're allowed to die and be reborn, to stop bullets, to kill one, so that thousands can live without fear. If you don't believe in fate, all it means is that you're the one creating it.Do you hear that? Destiny called your name.

McAvoy and McGregor to work with Spielberg?

It may just be a rumor right now, but I cannot imagine either of the Scottish actors turning down a chance to work with Steven Spielberg. The Oscar winning director is close to finalizing a deal to shoot a film about the 1988 Lockerbie crash that killed 259 people aboard the aircraft and 11 people on the ground. Wreckage from the aircraft was scattered up to 845 square miles away from the crash site and the impact reached 1.6 on the Richter scale. Both Ewan McGregor and James McAvoy have been linked to the film.
Spielberg will adapt Juval Aviv's novel Flight 103 which chronicles the subsequent police investigation which is said to be the biggest ever mounted in Scotland. When evidence of a bomb was found the investigation became a murder inquiry.
Juval Aviv, the author of the best-selling novel hopes the film will begin shooting in late 2008 and is very interested to shoot in Locherbie and to use Scottish actors in order to make the film more authentic.

Dougray Scott's new 'Killer' movie

Dougray Scott's upcoming thriller New Town Killers recently earned over £350,000 in an effort to finance the project. The film is one of many projects being financed in order to help the Glasgow film industry. Here's a plot summary from imdb:

Two private bankers, Alistair and Jamie, who have the world at their feet get their kicks from playing a 12 hour game of hunt, hide and seek with people from the margins of society. Their next target is Sean Kelly a parentless teenager who lives with his sister on a housing estate on the outskirts of Edinburgh. She's in debt, he's going nowhere fast. Sean agrees to play for cash. He soon realises he's walked into twelve hours of hell where survival is the name of the game.

The film is set for a 2009 release.

Ewan McGregor to shoot in New Orleans

Photo from Screenhead

According to nola.com Ewan McGregor will begin shooting the dramatic comedy I Love You Phillip Morris next month. McGregor will play Phillip Morris, and co-star Jim Carrey will play married man, Steven Russell, who is sentenced to three years in a Texas prison and falls in love with his cell mate Phillip Morris. When Morris is finally released from prison, Russell repeatedly tries to escape in order to be with him. The film - based on a book by Houston Chronicle crime reporter Steve McVicker - begins shooting on May 5 and lasts until June 30 in New Orleans. The film is set for release in early 2009 and I can't wait! I haven't been this excited for a Ewan McGregor film in a long time.
