Jamie Quinn and Scott Hoatson: starring roles in 'Bluestone 42'

Jamie Quinn: I was a bam in Still Game... but I tackle bombs in new telly hit

Scots star Jamie Quinn shot to fame as Still Game’s most famous ned — but now he’s swapping bams for BOMBS. Jamie — who starred as Fergie, one of a gang of teenagers who terrorised Jack and Victor — is making a TV return in controversial new Army comedy-drama Bluestone 42.
The BBC3 show centres on a team of British bomb disposal experts in Afghanistan, and the banter during conflict.
The 23-year-old plays Private Kevin ‘Mac’ McDowell — and admits the part is worlds away from portraying a Craiglang hood, alongside the likes of Ford Kiernan, Greg Hemphill and Paul Riley. Jamie, from Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, says: “They’re so different it’s unbelievable. Still Game had such a great following and I was really lucky to be part of the show.
“Ford and Greg were brilliant with me. Right from the start they encouraged me and gave me confidence. It’s fair to say I’ve changed a lot since then. I grew up on the programme in many ways.
“I was just 13 when I started on it and that feels like ages ago.”

Scott's a comrade ... and a pal
Jamie enjoyed the company of a fellow Scot on the comedy frontline — newcomer Scott Hoatson. The 29-year-old, from Portobello, Edinburgh, plays hapless Private Euan ‘Rocket’ Armstrong and their characters form a double act while out on duty.
Scott said: “You see me and Jamie’s characters together a lot.

“We didn’t know each other before filming this show, although I did know his older brother.
“But we socialised off set together and get on very well now.”
He added: “I’d like to think I’m a bit sharper than my character Rocket — he’s not the quickest on the up take! He’s charming even if he is a bit slow.
“But he is quite happy-go-lucky and I like to think I’m like that.”
Scott — who’s had bit parts in Taggart and BBC prime-time drama Case Histories — admits it’s the biggest part of his career.
He revealed: “I’ve only really done guest roles so to do this and see it through from start to finish was a great feeling.
“Filming in South Africa was the icing on the cake of a really good job. What a brilliant country. We wanted to do some shark cage diving but the producer wasn’t too happy about that idea so we backed out!
“We went hiking on Table Mountain and visited Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Everyone was pinching themselves, it was incredible.”
And Scott admits he was inspired meeting ex-servicemen on set.
He said: “From day one I was quizzing the military advisers. I didn’t want to look like a silly actor trying to hold a gun. You want to do this kind of role justice.”
