Alan Cumming, The Alexander Brothers, Una McLean and the cast of River City are just some of the acts featured on a unique bill of performers and musicians gathering in Glasgow’s Citizens Theatre this May to pay tribute to legendary Scottish actor and comedian Johnny Beattie.
They will also be taking part in a special charity variety performance on Sunday 20 May in honour of Johnny Beattie’s 60 year contribution to the arts and entertainment industry.
One of Scotland’s best loved performers, Johnny Beattie cut his teeth alongside the likes of Stanley Baxter, Jack Milroy and Jimmy Logan in variety shows in theatres and music halls across Scotland.
Well known for his acting roles on stage and screen, the former Govan shipyard worker has also been a stand-up comic, game show host and recording artist. The entertainer, now 85, is still on our screens playing Sheildinch’s loveable pensioner, Malcolm Hamilton, in Scottish soap River City.
He returns to the Citizens with his family for this special one-off event, hosted by his daughter Maureen Beattie to celebrate his stunning 60 year career.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Scottish Showbusiness Benevolent Fund and St Margaret of Scotland Hospice.
Confirmed so far, the evening will include contributions from: The Alexander Brothers, Andy Cameron, Alan Cumming, Dan Edgar, Anne Fields, David Gant, Alasdair Gillies, Geoff Graham, Fiona Kennedy, Alan Kitchen, Russel Lane, Muriel Mars, Eileen McCallum, Una McLean, Terry Neason, Dean Park, Judy Sweeney and the cast of River City.
