Gerard Butler's USA Today interview
Thanks so much to sassynach for reminding us about Gerard's interview. I'v posted an excerpt and you can go here for the full article:
I don't know if I'm the best actor out there, but I definitely have, how would you say? I have a lot of range," says the Scot, who can bury the brogue on command and manage a convincing American accent thanks to "easily 1,000" sessions with about 30 dialect coaches.
That variety is key to his industry appeal, Hollywood insiders say. "He's definitely keeping his foot in the fact that he can be the action guy in some of the choices he's making, but he's also incredibly funny, charming and a ladies' man," says RocknRolla producer Susan Downey, who's producing another Ritchie flick, the upcoming Sherlock Holmes starring her husband, Robert Downey Jr.
...For Gamer, Butler has swapped Leonidas' swords for submachine guns and his Mr. America abs for Popeye-like arms to play Kable, a death-row prisoner who's competing in the shoot-'em-up game Slayers for a chance at freedom. The man at the joystick controlling him, and his destiny, is a 17-year-old kid.
Starz will air a preview of Gamer, which will include interviews. You can go to the show's site for a schedule. The first airing will be Thursday, September 3 on Starz at 5:15pm Eastern time.
Spike TV will also be airing Resident Evil on Friday at 9pm Eastern with a Sneak Preview of Gamer with an interview featuring Gerard.

Updates on The Men Who Stare at Goats: Toronto screenings and a trailer debut
The film has also unveiled its new official website. There isn't much on the site yet, but more content will probably be up in the coming days and weeks. In the meantime you can check the film's new Twitter page and Facebook page for updates. I still haven't been able to verify if the Twitter page is legit, but it seems like the real thing. Jon Ronson, the writer of the book the film is based on will reportedly be live tweeting from the screenings at the Venice and Toronto film festivals.
The most exciting news is that tomorrow Thursday, August 27 Entertainment Tonight will debut The Men Who Stare at Goats trailer at 7:30pm on CBS in the US. Be sure to check your local listings.

New Gerard Butler interview
Gerard did an interview with the AP to promote Gamer, Law Abiding Citizen, and Bounty Hunter. Here's an excerpt from the interview which you can read in full here:
AP: Movies like "300" and "Gamer" tout a violent vision of tough-guy masculinity not seen in many films these days. Is that a subject you're drawn to?
BUTLER: I am very much a man and I naturally bring a masculinity to those roles. Mike Chadway in "The Ugly Truth," for example, could have been played in many different ways. ... But I also think I'm attracted to roles where guys get to talk about the mythical struggle of guys and what it is to be a man.
AP: You've also become a sex symbol, a role you've made light of but acknowledged is mostly to the good.
BUTLER: I joke with that because it's way better to be appreciated than to not be appreciated. For anybody to blow it off and dismiss it, they're either insane or they're just not being honest or they're being extremely arrogant. ... As you're saying that, my natural response is going to be, "Well, I don't really see it." But then again, I do — just on the street sometimes.
David Tennant at the V festival, Doctor Who farewell interview, and more
And now for the David and Russell T. Davies' 20 minute interview with Richard Metzger of Dangerous Minds who was guest hosting for Boing Boing. The interview is being called a farewell interview and Metzger described the interview:
This interview took place at an interesting moment in time for both men as they've only just left behind their respective starring roles in one of the biggest television successes in the world today. As difficult as that may sound, you can only imagine how much pressure is off them after four years of practically non-stop work. I think it shows in this interview, as they're both very relaxed and jovial. David had just come from Comic Con where he was treated with fan adulation bordering on Beatlemania and Russell is starting a new phase of his life here in Los Angeles.
How lucky Hollywood is to have Britain's answer to Rod Serling in such close proximity these days and I'm sure it won't be long before we're reading in Variety what David Tennant will do next. He's an interesting actor and a lot of big people will want to work with him, so expect that it will be something worth watching!
There are also two reminders:
The second episode of Doctor Who's Greatest Moments - The companions, will air on BBC3 at 8pm on Thursday, August 27th in the UK.
The Dalek Collection that will debut on DVD on October 19 and will include an interview with David Tennant. David Tennant News Updates gives us the 7 episodes that will be featured in the DVD collection: Dalek, Bad Wolf, The Parting of the Ways, Daleks in Manhattan, Evolution of the Daleks, The Stolen Earth, and Journey's End.

Stargate Universe to premiere in October in the UK
Stargate Universe which now stars Robert Carlyle is scheduled to premiere in the UK on Sky 1 on Tuesday, October 6. This is only 4 days after its US premiere on Syfy. There is also a report from SCI FI in Australia stating that the show will air every Friday night from October 9. Carlyle, who plays Dr. Nicholas Rush, is currently in Vancouver shooting scenes for the sci-fi spin-off and will be spending 8 months of the year in Vancouver with his family. In an interview with The Daily Record he explained that he was inspired by Tim Roth and fellow Scotsman Kevin McKidd to leave movies and try television:
He said: "In a way, Tim probably was the one who told me to do it. About 18 months ago, I decided to come to LA to stick my head above the parapet and see what's out here because so many of my friends were doing that.
Carlyle insists his change of medium - following in the footsteps of Brit actor mates Kevin McKidd and Tim- is no longer the backward step it once was.
Carlyle said:"I phoned Kevin up and told him that I might be coming to join him soon and he was delighted. So many actors are doing TV. It's not lack of work- it's very important to say that- it ain't about that. I can work anywhere at all in film and television.

New series Doctor Who's Greatest Moments to air on BBC
The BBC has announced the new series since the show was revamped in 2005. The show will be aired in three parts and is created by the same producers of Doctor Who Confidential:
"It's lovely to get the lowdown from regulars like David Tennant, Freema Agyeman and John Barrowman, who are all on good form and as charming as ever."It added: "We kick off with the Doctor himself before his companions and enemies nudge him to one side to have their time in the limelight.
"Each episode is split into themed sections, so in the opener we look at several elements of the Doctor's character, such as his humour, intelligence and physicality." [Digital Spy]
Doctor Who's Greatest Moments starts on August 20 at 8pm on BBC Three in the UK. You can get a look at a teaser for the new show here.

Photos of David Tennant filming St Trinian's II
There are only a few weeks left of shooting St Trinian's II: The Legend of Fritton's Gold and there are some photos of David Tennant shooting some scenes in the Thames:
David, 38, dragged himself out of the river's murky water during a scene where his villainous character, Lord Pomfrey, sinks in his boat. He then had a tussle on the shore with co-star Christian Brassington, 26.
An onlooker said: "David was in his element. It must have been freezing but he didn't seem to mind." Evil Lord Pomfrey tries to stop the St Trinian's schoolgirls from finding a stash of gold.
The movie, which also stars Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding, 27, and Rupert Everett, 50, as headmistress Miss Fritton, is due for release on 18 December. [News of the World via David Tennant ]

Kevin McKidd talks Grey's Anatomy and Percy Jackson
Kevin McKidd talked to Entertainment Tonight about the new season of Grey's Anatomy. It's mostly mild spoilers he has discussed before:
"This is a dark season. It starts in grief," he tells ET. "I think [George's death] will affect Hunt a lot, because he mentored him and got him up on his feet as a trauma surgeon. He really felt that O'Malley was going to become the next trauma star at the hospital. He encouraged him to join the army. He thought it was the honorable thing to do. I think he feels the loss of him a lot. I think he saw a huge potential in O'Malley when others didn't, even O'Malley."The new season of Grey's Anatomy will premier on Thurs, Sept. 24 at 9pm on ABC.What Hunt does do is he becomes a rock for other people. McKidd explains, "Owen is used to losing colleagues. That is part of having come from Iraq and working in a war zone as a surgeon. I think he has better mechanisms than others [to cope]. He is so used to loss and grief."
As for Hunt's romance with Cristina, McKidd believes that it is going to get even more complicated this season. "I think they have gotten over the whole trauma of his past, but then his past comes back again at some point to haunt him. Somebody comes to the hospital from his past, somebody we didn't expect, not his ex-fiancée. That is not certain, but it is what I have been hearing. And, hopefully, it could bring them closer together," he tells ET.
As for what is up with the rest of the characters, McKidd teases the season, saying, "Something happens that is seismic to the hospital. In these economic times, things start to come down the pike that start to impact people's lives. So the stakes become higher as the season goes on."
While promoting the new season of Grey's he also discussed Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief at the Television Critics Association summer press tour this weekend in California. He revealed that he is signed on for four of the five films in the series based on the Rick Riordan novels. He plays the Greek god Poseidon and revealed a little about the film:
"My son, since I started doing it, he's read the first three books...I'm watching him read the book, and I'm like, 'So, Joseph, am I in this one much?' He's like, 'Nah, nah, you're not. Maybe in the next one, but in this one not so much.'"
"I'm 40 feet tall for most of the film, but then we come to human form," McKidd continued. "We can atomize ourselves because we're gods. We can do what we want, right? So we can atomize ourselves and walk around the streets of Manhattan, wandering Manhattan, and dress in Gap clothing and do all that stuff, then atomize ourselves back to 40-foot Greek god stage. It's a really fun film."
Effects work is still underway, so there has not been a cut to screen for actors yet, but McKidd has heard early reports. "I know [director] Chris Columbus saw a cut," McKidd said. "He saw an early cut of it without the effects laid on yet. There's a lot of effects in it, and he's very excited about it. I think it's going to be really cool. My kids are really excited about Percy Jackson."
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is set to open Feb. 12, 2010.

New exclusive clip and interview from Gamer
Five questions and Kevin McKidd
How is Cristina and Owen's relationship going to develop this year?
It's going to get quite complicated in the sense that I think they've gotten over the whole trauma of his past, but then his past comes back again at some point to haunt him. Someone comes to the hospital that he was connected to in his past, not his ex-fiancée, but it's somebody we didn't expect. I think it could get a little tricky, but exciting and interesting. Hopefully it will bring them closer together in the long run.Bottom line: We should be rooting for Cristina and Owen this year, right?
Absolutely. They had a rough time last year, and they deserve some happiness this year. Whether they get it, I don't know.

Sean Biggerstaff episode of Miss Marple now online
If you missed Sean Biggerstaff in the PBS Masterpiece Theater production of Miss Marple you can now check it out online. The episode entitled Why Didn't They Ask Evans? is only available to viewers in the US, but maybe you could download a hotspot shield if you're outside of the US and really want to watch it. I'm terrible with technology, but I think they do work for some people. Anyway, here's a synopsis of the episode:
In this show, Sean plays Bobby Attfield who finds a man near death sprawled out on a cliff. His final, enigmatic words, "Why didn't they ask Evans?" On a whim, Bobby and his friend, socialite Frankie Derwent, decide to investigate. The amateur sleuths, along with Miss Marple, uncover several enticing clues. [Wizard News]
