Song benefits homeless LGBT yout
Openly gay singers - including Alan Cumming - remake an old favorite

David Raleigh, Alan Cumming and Ari Gold recently recorded a remake of Dionne Warwick’s “That’s What Friends Are For” to benefit the Ali Forney Center, a New York City shelter for homeless LGBT youth. The song was originally written as a tribute to people living with AIDS in the 1980s – and performed by Warwick, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight. But as part of the Friends Project, proceeds from the new iTunes download help fund the center’s mission to reach out to gay, lesbian and transgender youth who are at risk living on the streets.

First trailer for Lincoln assassination drama "The Conspirator" online

Robert Redford helms the James McAvoy starrer The Conspirator, which follows the arrest and trial of Mary Surratt (Robin Wright) after her involvement as a co-conspirator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September 2010, The Conspirator is scheduled to hit cinemas in the Spring.

Kevin McKidd reveals details of "Grey's Anatomy" musical episode

For those of us familiar with memorable Grey's Anatomy music selections from the past six-plus seasons, the show's musical episode is sure to bring back fond memories.

The episode will feature songs made popular by the series, like The Fray's "How to Save a Life" and Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars," both featured prominently in Season 2.

Kevin McKidd reveals that he's involved in both of those numbers, as well as singing Gomez's "How We Operate," from "Deterioration of the Fight or Flight Response."

Dougray Scott interview on set of 'United'

Dougray Scott talks to Barbara Hodgson on the set of a new drama about the Munich air disaster filmed in the North East.

It was a defining moment in football history. When a plane carrying Manchester United players crashed on its third take-off attempt on a slush-covered runway in Munich in February, 1958 it brought to a tragic end the best team the great Matt Busby was ever to manage.

Most people know about the tragedy in which eight of the young, hugely talented players – nicknamed the Busby Babes – died.

But what most people are less familiar with is the story of its aftermath: the survivors’ struggle with guilt and terrible injuries and a lack of desire ever to play football again.

A young Bobby Charlton was among the survivors, as was Busby himself, and now their side of the tragedy is the focus of a new feature-length BBC drama, United, made in the region with the help of £150,000 investment from Northern Film & Media.

It stars Dougray Scott – who’s made quite a name for himself in America with roles in Mission Impossible ll and Desperate Housewives – as Busby, and former Dr Who David Tennant as trainer Jimmy Murphy, while talented young Skins actor Jack O’Connell joins the Scotsmen in a lead role as Ashington-born Charlton.

James McAvoy Says He Knows Nothing About Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Mountain Of Madness,’ Yet

Despite being rumored to be in a showdown with Tom Cruise for the lead role in Guillermo Del Toro‘s upcoming 3D adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft‘s “At The Mountain Of Madness” and even being touted as the early studio favorite, James McAvoy has now revealed he’s heard nothing regarding the Del Toro project let alone anything about an offer to take the lead role of Dyer.

“Not at all, not at all,” said McAvoy, responding to questions of an approach by Del Toro and company. “I don’t know anything about the story, but he’s an amazing director. I would be very lucky to be able to work with someone like that one day.”

Karen Gillan, David Tennant attend Radio Times party

The annual Radio Times Cover Party took place in London on Tuesday evening (18 January). The party celebrates the array of stars to have been given the spotlight on the cover of Radio Times over the past 12 months, and Karen was there for her The Pandorica Opens issue from June 2010, while David, who also hosted the event, featured on a cover for his role in the 4-part drama Single Father back in October.

David Tennant to appear at British Comedy Awards

On Friday night (21 Jan), Jonathan Ross tweeted at about 5.15pm "Just came off the phone with the marvelous Mr David Tennant -one of the guests at the Comedy Awards tomorrow night!"

The British Comedy Awards are an annual awards ceremony which celebrate notable comedians and entertainment performances of the previous year. The Awards started in 1990 and this year are being hosted by Jonathan Ross. They are being held at O2 in Greenwich, London.

The British Comedy Awards are broadcast from 9pm until 11.05pm tomorrow evening on Channel 4 (U.K.) and are repeated from 11pm until 1.05am on Sunday evening. (Both screens are repeated an hour later on Channel 4 + 1.) There is also a programme called The British Comedy Awards: Live Lock-In from 11pm until 12.05am on E4 tomorrow (Saturday) evening.
