Brian Cox joins Gerard Butler in 'Coriolanus'

Scottish actor Brian Cox and Vanessa Redgrave have been cast in Coriolanus. They both also starred in The Day of the Triffids in December. The film is an update of the Shakespearean historical tragedy. Shooting is set to begin next week in Belgrade, Serbia.

...[Ralph] Fiennes plays revered Roman general Coriolanus who is at odds with the city of Rome and his fellow citizens.

Pushed by his controlling mother (Redgrave) to enter the Senate, he is loath to ingratiate himself with the masses whose votes he needs to secure a Senate seat. When the public refuses to support him, Coriolanus' anger prompts a riot, which culminates in his expulsion from Rome. The banished hero then allies with his sworn enemy (Butler) to take his revenge on the city.

Billed as mixing the classical and the contemporary, the movie aims to retain Shakespeare's language, but combining it with modern technology and a contemporary environment. [THR]

Sean Biggerstaff to have a small role in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'

The List's Paul Dale spoke with actor Sean Biggerstaff at last month's Glasgow Film Festival. Sean talked about his very small role in the last Harry Potter film. I'm not sure if he means part 1 or part 2 of Deathly Hallows, but it's probably part 2.

I did manage to get a chat with the lovely actor Sean Biggerstaff, best known for his role in the Harry Potter films, sex comedy Cashback and superb television film Consenting Adults. Biggerstaff told me he’s got a blink-and-you'll-miss-it part in the last Harry Potter and a load of other stuff going on but for some reason we started talking about theatre.

Biggerstaff, a very fine actor raised on the stage, said he has not been offered anything decent on stage for a long time and that all he got offered were crazy experimental roles which really wasn’t his bag. So on his behalf, I just want to say: ‘Come on you Scottish thespian dic(k)tators in your publicly-funded ivory towers - there’s real gold in them Glaswegian hills, and his name is a curious amalgam of a drab South Lanarkshire town and a stick to assist walking. John Barrowman to guest star on 'Glee'?

John Barrowman has been meeting with Glee producers in Los Angeles about possibly guest starring on the show as a teacher.

He enthused: "I absolutely love the show. What would I play in it? I’m not sure what kind of character I’d like to play, maybe I could be a teacher, you know, another teacher who comes in and helps out.

"That’s me just kind of brainstorming but the fact that they want to have a meeting with me is really quite nice in itself, it’s so exciting!" [Mirror.co.uk]

He will also be heading to America on Thursday to start shooting his Desperate Housewives episodes.

He told Mirror.co.uk: "I just got the script last night. He is the most evil character they’ve ever introduced to the series. And that’s saying something!

"I've been told I'll not only be involved in what they call ‘the current mystery storyline’, but I'll affect every single housewife on the street. I can’t wait! I’m going to be having my Starbucks in the morning with Eva Longoria, woohoo!"
