Sean Biggerstaff to play T in the Park and National Theatre of Scotland
It's a busy fortnight for Sean Biggerstaff, who played Oliver Wood in the early Harry Potter films; the premiere of the final film, playing with his band at T in the Park, and appearing in one of the National Theatre of Scotland's Five Minute Theatre performances.
Sean Biggerstaff, who played Oliver Wood, the Gryffindor Quidditch captain in the early Harry Potter movies, will be appearing with his band Wrong Note at the BBC Introduces stage at T in the Park on July 10th, just hours after attending the final Harry Potter film premiere in London.
And before that he can be seen in one of the National Theatre of Scotland's Five Minute Theatre performances which will be streamed live online at stv.tv/fiveminutetheatre later this week on June 21.
His performances as Robert Burns in You're Bard, a jokey imagining of what might have happened if Burns had met William Shakespeare, can be seen between 9pm and 10pm, and will later be available to watch as a video at stv.tv and on stv's Youtube channel.
Although Sean only appeared in the first two Harry Potter films, he and many of the characters in the early stories reappear briefly in the final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part Two) which shows the final dramatic conclusion of Harry's struggles with Lord Voldemort. Co-star Alan Rickman has called the reappearance of so many characters "the cinema equivalent of a pantomime walk-down".
Sean's acting career has continued to flourish; he won a BAFTA for best actor in 2007 for a BBC4 film called Consenting Adults and only last week he appeared in a Miss Marple mystery on ITV.
But as an accomplished guitarist and singer, he has always taken a keen interest in music. The band, Wrongnote, completed its first album last year and has been getting airplay on BBC Radio stations Radio One and Radio Scotland and particularly by Tom Robinson on 6Music
Sean told stv.tv "It's a crazy busy time, just so much going on. I've always fancied the idea of playing at festival and T in the Park is certainly a big one. I'm looking forward to it"
His appearance in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is brief but he added: "It's been an amazing thing to be a part of and it' great to be able to be there for the final curtain."

First poster for Pixar’s 'Brave'
The first poster for next summer’s Pixar movie has just been released. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Brave…
Arriving next summer, Pixar's movie, Brave, is set to break up a run of three sequels from the firm. We've already had Toy Story 3, then we've got Cars 2 arriving imminently. And, once Brave is done, the onus will then switch to Monsters University, the Monsters Inc prequel.
Given that the run of non-sequel films that Pixar produced, taking in Ratatouille, Wall-E and Up, offered some of its most special films, we're looking forward to Brave immensely. That's no slight on the sequels, we should point out.
Brave, then, is set in the Scottish Highlands, and centres around the character of Merida (voiced by Kelly Macdonald), the daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). Merida's actions, as you might expect, stir up trouble for the kingdom, and the story goes from there.
Given that we're still a year away from the film's release, we've not seen any footage from it just yet. But Pixar has, through Entertainment Weekly, released the first poster for the movie. And we thought it'd be rude not to bring it to you. So here is it...

James McAvoy 'to take lead' in Danny Boyle's 'Trance'?
James McAvoy, star of The Last King of Scotland and X-Men: First Class, has replaced fellow X-Men actor Michael Fassbender in the lead role of Danny Boyle's next film, Trance, according to a report in Variety magazine.
Trance is a remake of a 2001 British TV drama written and directed by Joe Ahearne (best known for his work on This Life and Doctor Who), and is about an auction house employee who helps to steal a painting, but then suffers amnesia and can't remember where it's hidden.
Fassbender, who played Magneto in X-Men: First Class, was originally in line for the role, but appears to have dropped out, clearing the way for McAvoy, who played Xavier in the same movie.
Boyle, who won the Academy award for best director in 2008 for Slumdog Millionaire, is due to direct the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and plans to shoot Trance before the event gets under way.

Gerard Butler and Robbie Coltrane invited to join film Academy 2011
Each year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences extends invitations to join the organization to artists (and executives) who they feel have distinguished themselves in their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.
“These individuals are among the best filmmakers working in the industry today,” said Academy President Tom Sherak. “Their talent and creativity have entertained moviegoers around the world, and I welcome each of them to our ranks.”
The voting membership has held steady at just under 6,000 members since 2003 and this year is inviting 178 new members.
This year, Gerard Butler and Robbie Coltrane are amongst the actors who have been invited to join.

Perfect Sense screens at Edinburgh International Film Festival
The latest kitchen film to be creating a stir stars Ewan McGregor as a high-end chef in a movie that marries seemingly incongruous genres and topics into one: food, love, horror, science fiction and the Apocalypse.
Or, as Bon Appetit magazine calls it, a "Foodpocalyptic romance drama."
Perfect Sense centers around the sensuous love affair between Michael (McGregor), a talented chef at a fine dining restaurant, and Susan, an epidemiologist played by Eva Green frantically searching for answers as a worldwide epidemic is poised to break out.
One by one, people around the world fall victim to a strange phenomenon which strips them of their senses - smell, taste - and induces intense, uncontrollable emotional breakdowns.

Billy Boyd helps young carers
Billy Boyd will help to launch a website for young carers, who are children and young people who take on caring roles and responsibilities that are usually associated with adults. As a result they often miss out on schooling and time with their friends.
Funded by the Scottish Government and created by The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, Eryc and Trayc are cartoon characters who are young carers and who have their own website, www.erycandtrayc.com. Through the website, children can find out what young carers do, what challenges they face and where to get further help and support.
Billy will be also doing a voiceover for a short animated children’s film, which takes place during Carers Week 2011 and which is about the Eryc and Trayc’s lives and the challenges they face.
Billy Boyd said: “I was delighted to provide a ‘voice’ for Scotland’s young carers. So many children of this age miss out on schooling and enjoying time with friends because they are caring for someone who can’t manage without their support. I am confident that the new film and website about young carers will raise awareness of the issue, and show teachers and young carers where they can get further help.”

WWE Studios announce 'No One Lives' cast
WWE Studios and Pathe UK have rounded out the cast of Ryuhei Kitamura's horror thriller "No One Lives" with Angus Macfadyen, Alexis Dziena, Laura Ramsey, Lindsey Shaw, America Olivo, "Super 8"-thesp Beau Knapp, "Flying Lessons"-helmer Derek Magyar and WWE wrestler Brodus Clay.
Luke Evans had already been tapped to play the lead in the pic when it was announced at the Cannes Film Festival.
WWE and Pathe are co-financing the production that will start lensing next week in New Orleans. It's WWE's first horror pic since 2006's Kane-starrer "See No Evil," which grossed more than $18 million worldwide.
Kitamura ("Midnight Meat Train") is directing "No One Lives" from a script by David Cohen ("Underground"). Story concerns a group of local criminals who abduct a wealthy couple, intending to torture them. They get a surprise when the man (Evans) turns out to be far more psychotic than any of them.
Milk & Media's Harry Knapp and Elton Brand are producing along with WWE's Mike Pavone and Kami Naghdi of Constance Media.
Pathe brought the project to WWE and will handle foreign sales, in addition to releasing the film in France.
Macfadyen will soon be seen in Cameron Crowe's "We Bought a Zoo" and the indie "Hirokin" alongside Ramsey, who recently appeared in "Kill the Irishman." Dziena was last seen in Disney's "When in Rome," while Olivo appeared in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." Project marks a return to horror for Shaw, who recently wrapped the lead in "The Howling: Reborn."
Macfadyen is repped by Innovative Artists and Kramer Management, while ICM reps Dziena. Paradigm reps Shaw and Knapp along with Cutler Mgmt. and Margrit Polak Mgmt., respectively. Magyar is repped by Framework Entertainment, while CAA and Luber Roklin Entertainment rep Ramsey.

John Barrowman Open to a Return to Doctor Who
TV news site Zap2it briefly interviewed John Barrowman on the set of Torchwood: Miracle Day and revealed that Captain Jack Harkness could always return to Doctor Who.
"I've always said that if I'm asked to go back to 'Doctor Who,' I'll go at the drop of a hat. That's where Captain Jack got his beginnings. And it's already been discussed."
Barrowman says that both "Torchwood" creator Russell T Davies and current "Doctor Who" showrunner Steven Moffat have talked about the possibility of a return for Jack . . .
"It's in the cards, but who knows whether it will happen?" says Barrowman, quick to add that his character does have special ties to David Tennant's version of the Doctor. "I like Matt Smith. He brings his own quirkiness to it... When a new Doctor starts, everybody goes along for the journey because they love the show. But then you attach yourself to that Doctor. There's a whole new generation who are now attached to Matt, and rightly so.... but David Tennant is my Doctor."

New stage version of The Ladykillers starring Peter Capaldi
The Liverpool Playhouse is to host the world premiere of a new stage version of cult British comedy The Ladykillers.
The Playhouse co-production with London company Fiery Angel boasts a stellar cast headed by The Thick of It’s Peter Capaldi.
Ben Miller, James Fleet and Marcia Warren will also appear in the new play, adapted from the original story by Father Ted and The IT Crowd writer Graham Linehan.
It will open in November for a two week run before transferring to the West End.
Peter Capaldi, who will appear as Professor Marcus, the part played by Alec Guinness in the 1955 original, said today: “It’s an incredible role: funny, menacing, witty, stylish and lethal.
“The script is as clever and absurd as you would expect from Graham Linehan, the cast is utterly stunning, and I think the production by Sean Foley is going to be knock out.
“Of course we all walk in the deep shadows of the original Ladykillers, but I consider it a wonderful challenge to take a stab at one of the truly great comic roles.”
The cast also includes Ben Miller as Louis, James Fleet as Major Courtney, Clive Rowe as One Round and Stephen Wight as Harry, while Marcia Warren plays eccentric landlady Mrs Wilberforce.

Fright Night trailer, interview clips, and sequel rumours
Fright Night 2 could star David Tennant!
While we haven't seen much of David Tennant in the Fright Night trailer, early buzz suggests he steals the show! In fact, he's so good that there's already rumors that he could star in Fright Night 2!
Cinemablend is reporting from an inside source that DreamWorks is already talking about a sequel to Fright Night, but this one would be all David Tennant and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Here's what they have to say about the potential sequel (a few spoilers from the first film):
Our source tells us that DreamWorks is considering turning the franchise over to David Tennant for Fright Night 2. The followup would take place in a new city where Peter Vincent [Tennant] not only has to deal with vampires, but potentially other unexpected problems. Evil Ed wouldn't be the movie's villain, they'd go another direction, but Evil Ed will be in it.
All of a sudden, we have new reason to hope that Fright Night is one of this summer's big hits.

James McAvoy Discusses a Possible "X-Men: First Class" Sequel
Now that director Matthew Vaughn's X-Men prequel X-Men: First Class is in theaters, speculation over a sequel can only increase while this weekend's box office is tallied. Vaughn has already expressed interest in helming a sequel, explaining an idea for a sequel that would include the X-Men in the JFK assassination. All it would take for a sequel is for the movie to be a success.
James McAvoy, who plays Professor X in First Class, told The LA Times that while he hopes a First Class sequel is made "because they found a story they like," the actor admits that he has ideas about what should happen in a sequel.

John Hannah in "The Words"
Olivia Wilde and Ben Barnes, alongside J.K. Simmons and John Hannah, have joined the cast of plagiarism drama The Words, Variety reports.
The Words, which already stars Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Irons, Zoe Saldana and Dennis Quaid, follows the story of a writer (Cooper) who, at the peak of his career, finds that he must face the consequences of stealing the work of another writer (Irons). Well, it can be tempting, but a good writer should stay away from plagiarism, which I personally define as the wrongful appropriation of another author’s language and the representation of them as one’s own original work, although the notion does remain problematic with nebulous boundaries.* Which should make for an interesting plot.
Not much else is known about the film, which is set to be written and directed by Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal, but its impressive cast list indicates that The Words is one to look out for.
There is no confirmation yet as to when shooting will begin, but it is likely to be later this year, with a late 2012 release.

Steven Brand in "The Cabin" - world premiere 30 July
Lea Thompson ("Jane Doe," "Back to the Future") stars with Steven Brand ("Covert Affairs") in the World Premiere of The Cabin, a Hallmark Movie Channel Original Premiere, on Saturday 30 July (8p.m. ET/PT, 7C). What was supposed to be a vacation of culture, adventure and ancestral bonding, becomes the Clash of the Macs, when two divorced strangers with nothing in common but their last name, battle as they are forced to share the same cabin with their kids in Scotland.
Lily MacDougal (Thompson) and Conor MacDougal (Brand) are single parents who share the same surname, but have little else in common. Lily and Conor have each brought their children to Scotland to enter a national Clan Mac-type affair called the "Meeting of the Macs." But when a careless booking agent accidentally assigns Lily's family and Conor's to the same cabin, a civil war ensues reminiscent of the War of Scottish Independence. Through a series of mishaps, Lily and Conor struggle to get along as their families are now entered into the competition as a single team, which further means they will need to get along in order to get ahead and win. Will the warring "Macs" set aside personal differences for the greater good, or will it take another Treaty of Edinburgh to bring peace back to the tiny Scottish hamlet?
