Viewers outside of the UK have to sit tight and wait for the new season. It's not easy being a David Tennant fan. Sigh.

Even Mel (Gibson that is) wants to work with McAvoy

I haven't posted since Monday, and I rarely let even two days go by without posting news, but I've been ill with the flu all week. Sorry everyone, but thankfully I feel better. So here's a little news.

According to Yahoo! Movies Mel Gibson will be directing the film adaptation of Robert Drewe's historical romance novel The Drowner. Who's on the top of Gibson's wish list of actors for the film? James McAvoy for the part of Will Dance, and Cate Blanchett as the actress he falls in love with, Angelica Lloyd.

Win an Atonement DVD

Along with a new Atonement DVD (out in the US March 18) you can also, oddly enough, win a brand new bicycle in the process. I found the Cinematical contest, by way of Awards Daily. Cinematical is asking for captions for the photo below - so go ahead, post a witty caption, and maybe one of you could win.

Will you vote for Ewan McGregor?

The shortlist for the 2008 Galaxy British Book Awards were announced yesterday, with Ewan McGregor and fellow actor Charlie Boorman among the nominees for Long Way Down. You can vote online from among the nominees (voting closes April 2, 2008).

The winners receive their awards at a ceremony and dinner held at London’s Grosvenor House on April 9. According to the official site, the show will air April 13 on Channel 4 at 4:45pm in the UK. Here are the nominees in the Popular Non-fiction category:

· Long Way Down by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman (Sphere)
· Nigella Express by Nigella Lawson (Chatto & Windus)
· The Wild Places by Robert Macfarlane (Granta Books)

I personally will not vote because I haven't read any of the nominated books (including Long Way Down) , but how do you like the book? Or the show Long Way Down is based on?

It's officially March 11 on my side of the world and it's John Barrowman's birthday. If you want do to something in honor of his birthday, instead of sending cards or presents, his official website suggests that you donate to DogsTrust, a charity John supports in the UK.

The new Scottish vacuum of charm?

No the world did not just end, but it's a pretty awesome universe that gets Ewan McGregor and James McAvoy in the same photo. It's an even cooler universe that gets Ewan's Othello co-star Chiwetel Ejiofor at the Empire Awards reception as well. For more pictures from the Empire Awards go here. Enjoy people!

James McAvoy wins over Gerard Butler

James McAvoy beat fellow Scottish actor Gerard Butler at Sunday's Empire Awards in the Best Actor category for his role in Atonement. The film also won awards in the Best Actress (Keira Knightley) and in the Best British Film categories. According to Top News one million online users voted for the the epic film. For those of you who missed the show or do not live in the UK here is James McAvoy's acceptance speech from Empire Online:

"That was The Fratellis, they're from Scotland, they're from Glasgow I think and that was cool. I'm truly nervous. I really want to thank Working Title, you do good films and you make a lot of them and you make money with them sometimes, not all the time, you may not have made money with this one but you made it and that's because you believed in the film and Joe and us. Thank you very much for letting me be a part of that. Thanks to Paul Webster as well.

"Thank you Ruth, the best goddamn agent in town and I'd also like to thank Empire as well. I used to get it all the time as a kid, I still get it now if I'm being honest, not all the time, but sometimes.

"And this year's been an amazing for intelligent film, for good film, not just Transformers. What Empire has done is to tell people what to see and well done this year for getting people to see the good stuff and still saying the bad stuff is shit. And this is it, thanks very much."

I'll post more on the award ceremony soon.

Ewan, Gerard, and James - oh my

The Empire Award winners will be announced this Sunday, while the show will air on Monday at 9pm on ITV2 in the UK. Both James McAvoy and Gerard Butler are nominated in the best actor category for their roles in Atonement and 300 respectively. Fellow Scot, Ewan McGregor will be presented with the Icon Award and a recorded tribute will play at the ceremony.

If you don't want to know who wins before the show is aired on Monday avoid TV and the internet and I won't post anything about it until after the show is aired in the UK. Annoyingly, it won't air where I live but to be fair I don't want to spoil the surprise for anyone (including myself in some sort of odd way.) I'll post pictures and video clips when I get them after the show airs. Fingers crossed for James or Gerard, and you can go here for a complete list of the nominees.

Introducing Snap Shots from Snap.com

I just installed a nice little tool on this site called Snap Shots that enhances links with visual previews of the destination site, interactive excerpts of Wikipedia articles, MySpace profiles, IMDb profiles and Amazon products, display inline videos, RSS, MP3s, photos, stock charts and more.

Sometimes Snap Shots bring you the information you need, without your having to leave the site, while other times it lets you "look ahead," before deciding if you want to follow a link or not.

Should you decide this is not for you, just click the Options icon in the upper right corner of the Snap Shot and opt-out.
